PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Lassiter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Webb (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lassiter comes into the arena with Hey Superstar - Madina Lake blaring out of the sound system. Webb has chosen Hells Bells by AC/DC as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Paul Lassiter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jimmy Webb!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Russell Pearce and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lassiter misses with an attempted mid kick.
Lassiter slips a straight right by Webb.
Webb ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Lassiter moves away.
Webb throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Lassiter sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Lassiter slips under a jab from Webb.
Lassiter slips a jab from Webb.
Webb swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Webb looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Lassiter is not content to let Webb control the position.

Lassiter pushes Webb off and gets back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lassiter lands a two punch combo.
Webb misses with a hook. Lassiter ducked under it nicely.

Webb feints and as Lassiter raises his hands in defense, Webb changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Lassiter utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Webb working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Webb throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Lassiter works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Lassiter will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Webb stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lassiter swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Webb content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Webb throwing strikes from guard but Lassiter blocks nicely.
Webb trying to control but Lassiter is working from the bottom.
Webb distracts Lassiter with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Webb throws and elbow that misses. Lassiter uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Webb's guard. Nice move by Lassiter!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Webb working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lassiter doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lassiter manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Webb manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Lassiter manages to get himself to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Webb working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Webb passes Lassiter's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Webb thows a huge punch but Lassiter dodges it nicely.
Lassiter wants to get back to his feet.
Lassiter on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Webb uses his free foot to push down on Lassiter's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Lassiter.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimmy Webb dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Lassiter leaves Webb with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Webb throws a jab when Lassiter was well out of range.
Webb takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Lassiter lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Webb misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Lassiter defending well as Webb loads up on a big left hand.
Lassiter fails in his attempt to clinch.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Webb. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Webb throws a looping overhand right but Lassiter ducks down to avoid it.

Webb changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Lassiter looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Webb lands an elbow.
Webb sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Lassiter is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Lassiter is pushing Webb's head away, looking to escape. Webb manages to hold on to the position though.
Lassiter stops Webb from passing to mount.
Webb throws a strike aimed at the side of Lassiter's head but Lassiter avoids it well.
Webb throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Lassiter works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Webb trying to pass the guard but Lassiter defending well.
Webb trying to control the action but Lassiter is working from the bottom.
Ground and pound from Webb.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Webb is trying to control the action in half guard but Lassiter is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Webb working the head and body with strikes.
Webb throwing shots but Lassiter is blocking nicely.
Webb scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Webb frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Webb controlling the position easily from mount.
Webb has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Webb jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Lassiter manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Webb has knee on belly and moves into mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimmy Webb showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Webb gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Lassiter counters with a nice body shot.
Lassiter throws a combination that misses
and Webb counters with a right hand to the body.

Webb bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Webb misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Lassiter takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

It looks like Paul Lassiter has been cut.
Webb cracks Lassiter with a big right hand but Lassiter just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
