Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mark Wilcox! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Edwardson George! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Robert Douchet and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! George misses with a wild combination.
George scores with a jab to the head.
A telegraphed right hand from George misses the target. Wilcox closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. George avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Wilcox. Wilcox postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Wilcox working the body and head with strikes. Wilcox decides to stand back up. George fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Wilcox manages to avoid it. Edwardson George seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. George lands a jab-cross combination. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. George misses with a two punch combination.
Wilcox takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Wilcox looks to score with a jab to the body but George is just out of range.

George will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Wilcox shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says George as he avoids it easily. Wilcox throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. George was covering up waiting for the punch and Wilcox finishes the takedown easily into guard. Wilcox has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Wilcox with a flurry of punches that miss. Wilcox trying to control the position from guard on top but George is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Wilcox lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wilcox working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Wilcox tries to free his leg and advance position but George is retaining full guard. Wilcox is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! George is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! George has escaped and now he's on top! George looking to pass the guard. George stopping the sweep attempt from Wilcox. Wilcox thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wilcox controlling the position. Wilcox wants to sweep but no luck. Wilcox throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
George trying to control but Wilcox is working from the bottom. George must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Wilcox tries to land a sweep but no joy. George trying to control the position from guard on top but Wilcox is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Edwardson George wasn't active enough on the ground. Wilcox closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. George manages to get to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. George utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. George avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. George is working an open guard so Wilcox takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. George misses with the combination.

Mark Wilcox dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
George misses with a few strikes there.

Wilcox decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. George is looking for a sweep. Wilcox is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Wilcox missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Wilcox content to control rather than advance. George avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Wilcox. Wilcox landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wilcox is sneakily working for an arm triangle but George sees it coming and defends easily. Wilcox is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but George still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, George has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work! Mark Wilcox overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. George wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Wilcox, who protects the arm well. Wilcox sneaks back into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. George is looking to take a break and control but Wilcox is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. George keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Wilcox slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. George won't allow Wilcox to sweep him here. Wilcox is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and George defends well. Wilcox tries to land a sweep but no joy. George tries to free his leg and advance position but Wilcox is retaining full guard. George postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Edwardson George. Wilcox doesn't manage to clinch there - George circles away.

Wilcox feints and as George raises his hands in defense, Wilcox changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. George is breathing heavily. Wilcox wants to control from the top but George keeps moving. Wilcox slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Wilcox preventing the sweep.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wilcox controls the pace of the fight for a moment. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Wilcox postures up in George's guard and throws a big left but George blocks it. Wilcox throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as George works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Mark Wilcox has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. George lands a jab to the nose. George throws a hook but Wilcox blocks it. A punch combination from George misses. Edwardson George is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. George scores with a body shot.
George rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Wilcox moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Wilcox avoids a lazy jab quite easily. George will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Wilcox fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Wilcox misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from George.
Wilcox clinches. George wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Wilcox's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Wilcox ducks down and throws a hook to the body. George will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

so Wilcox counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Wilcox sitting in guard here, content to control. George preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. George takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wilcox drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Wilcox jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Wilcox makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Wilcox landing with the ground and pound. George controls Wilcox momentarily but Wilcox frees himself. Wilcox stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. George swivels though and keeps the full guard. Wilcox trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
That's two minutes gone in the round. George looking for a sweep. Not yet George, not yet. Wilcox thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Wilcox sitting in guard here, content to control. Wilcox working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Wilcox is looking to work some ground and pound but George has wrist control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. George is trying to keep Wilcox in close.
Wilcox throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Wilcox trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Wilcox drops back looking for a leg! George is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and George manages to kick Wilcox off! Wilcox jumps back into George's guard. Wilcox controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Wilcox landing with the ground and pound. Wilcox looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
And that's the end of the fight! Mark Wilcox showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wilcox, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
