The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stevenson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hurley's guard. Stevenson pushes down on Hurley's leg and manages to get into half guard. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Stevenson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Stevenson wants to pass the guard but Hurley is keeping the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Stevenson looks for a takedown but Hurley sprawls well. Stevenson is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Hurley's half guard. Hurley trying to hold on to Stevenson's head to control him but Stevenson postures up.
Hurley really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stevenson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Hurley is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Stevenson's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Stevenson's back! Hurley connects with a big shot to the side of Stevenson's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Stevenson prevents Hurley from getting a body triangle. The referee is taking a good look at Stevenson as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Hurley!

Hurley lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Stevenson breaks Hurley's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Stevenson wants to pass the guard but Hurley is keeping the position. Hurley avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Stevenson stands and throws Hurley's legs to the side, diving into side control. Hurley takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Stevenson has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Hurley! Stevenson is breathing heavily. Hurley is looking to improve his position but Stevenson isn't that keen on the idea. Stevenson looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Hurley keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Stevenson wants to finish this one by submission but Hurley is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Stevenson. Hurley tries to hold on but Stevenson pushes him away. Stevenson landing strikes from the mount and Hurley is in trouble! Hurley can't escape the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hurley can do anything to dispel that myth. Stevenson with the ground and pound from mount. Hurley tries to reverse the position but Stevenson maintains control. Stevenson with the ground and pound from mount. Stevenson in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Hurley is looking to improve his position but Stevenson isn't that keen on the idea. Stevenson raining down shots from the mount! Hurley regains half guard. Stevenson has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Hurley defend it? Stevenson steps over the head and cranks it - Hurley is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Stevenson!
