Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gregory Cain! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nick Taylor! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Leandro Rodrigues and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cain scoring well with a low kick there.
Cain tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Taylor swivels and escapes. Taylor tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cain swivels and escapes. Cain gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Taylor counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Cain fails with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gregory Cain. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cain gets a clinch. Cain looking for a takedown. Cain drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Taylor gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Cain pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Cain throws a mid kick that lands with a slap. Taylor shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cain defends it nicely. Taylor shoots in looking for a takedown. Cain tries to sprawl out of it but Taylor keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Cain manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cain shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Taylor is trying to defend but Cain finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Taylor regains full guard. Nicely done. Cain avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Taylor tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cain looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Taylor working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cain doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cain manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Taylor is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Cain avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Taylor escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cain gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cain trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Taylor has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cain can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Cain knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Taylor on the ground. Taylor is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Taylor keeping moving, preventing Cain from controlling successfully. Taylor tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Cain content to stall in guard here. Taylor looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Taylor escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cain gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Taylor keeping moving, preventing Cain from controlling successfully.
We're going to have a standup here because Gregory Cain wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Cain moves into the clinch. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Taylor jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Cain walks away with a smile on his face. Taylor gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. No luck for Taylor with that takedown attempt. Cain misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Gregory Cain will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
No luck for Taylor with that takedown attempt. Taylor shoots in and drives through. Cain sprawls well. Taylor throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cain's waist but Cain gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Taylor off to one side. Gregory Cain has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nick Taylor. Taylor darts in trying to clinch and Cain makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Taylor really felt that one! Taylor fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Taylor shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cain pinned against the cage. Cain gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Cain pushes Taylor up against the ropes in a clinch. Taylor is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cain is looking for a takedown up against the ropes. Taylor gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Cain manages to pull guard.
Cain trying to keep a closed guard but Taylor is proving a slippery customer.
Cain looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Taylor is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Cain is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Taylor thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Taylor working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Cain wants to sweep but no luck. Taylor is pushing down on Cain's leg trying to pass to half guard. Cain is fighting to maintain full guard but Taylor has managed to sneak the leg through. Taylor is looking for a kimura but Cain is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Taylor to get the leverage. Taylor works his way into full mount! Cain is in a horrible position here. Taylor smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Taylor landing strikes from the mount and Cain is in trouble! Taylor looking to ground and pound but Cain is blocking nicely. Taylor has hold of Cain's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Cain manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Taylor thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Taylor is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Cain can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Cain on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Cain tries to get out of the position. Cain flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Taylor lands with some strikes. Cain wants to control but Taylor is having none of it. Taylor thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Cain in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Taylor lands with some strikes. Taylor working for a submission but Cain is keeping him at bay. Taylor working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Cain turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Taylor off and cradles Cain's limp body as Taylor celebrates with his corner.
