Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ian Larson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Phoenix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Larson kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Manboy by Erik Saede. Phoenix has chosen Phoenix as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ian Larson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Phoenix! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Larson shoots in but Phoenix avoids the takedown attempt easily. No luck for Larson with that takedown attempt. Phoenix rushes Larson and presses him up against the cage. Phoenix breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Phoenix looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Phoenix sitting and controlling from the half guard. I looks like Phoenix might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Phoenix is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Larson! Phoenix controlling his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Phoenix in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Larson on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Larson tries to get out of the position. Phoenix sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Phoenix looking to ground and pound but Larson is blocking nicely. Phoenix has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Larson is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Phoenix tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Larson is trying desperately to improve position. Phoenix working away from the top, dropping strikes. Phoenix sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Let's hope that Phoenix has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Larson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Phoenix looking to control but Larson is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Larson is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Phoenix sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Phoenix wants to control the pace but Larson is squirming around nicely.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Paul Phoenix wasn't active enough on the ground. Larson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Larson misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Phoenix shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Larson's guard. Phoenix stands and steps away. Larson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Larson shoots and misses and Phoenix counters into the clinch. Nicely done. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ian Larson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Phoenix wants a takedown but no success here.

Phoenix keeping moving, preventing Larson from controlling successfully. Larson preventing the sweep. Larson wants to control from the top but Phoenix keeps moving. Phoenix is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Phoenix wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Paul Phoenix dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Larson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Phoenix works his way to full guard. Good work. Larson stopping the sweep attempt from Phoenix. Phoenix is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Phoenix is taking a breather. Larson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Larson blocking the ground and pound attempt from Phoenix. The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Phoenix. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
That's one minute gone in the round. Larson is refusing to be controlled, as Phoenix sits in half guard. Larson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Phoenix on the ground. Phoenix missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Phoenix lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Phoenix passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Larson! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Phoenix trying to control but Larson is having none of it. Phoenix controlling from mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Larson is squirming around, avoiding Phoenix's attempts to control the action. Phoenix with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Paul Phoenix has got the better of the ground game so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Phoenix with the ground and pound from mount. Phoenix lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Phoenix trying to control but Larson is having none of it. Phoenix throws some wild stikes that Larson manages to avoid easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Phoenix controlling from the full mount. Larson is wriggling around trying to escape.
Phoenix takes Larson's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Larson is in trouble. Phoenix has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Larson's body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Paul Phoenix showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Larson shoots and misses and Phoenix counters with a takedown into side control. Phoenix working away. Phoenix taking a breather here. Phoenix decides to stand back up. Phoenix steps back and let's Larson get back to his feet. Larson leaves Phoenix with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Larson shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Phoenix holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Phoenix is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Phoenix prevents Larson from breaking the clinch. Still in the clinch, Phoenix scores with a nice short uppercut. Phoenix lands a right hand that snaps the head of Larson backwards. Phoenix breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Larson misses with a takedown attempt and Phoenix counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ian Larson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Phoenix instigates a clinch. Phoenix is stalling here.
Phoenix jumps guard.
Larson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Phoenix looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Phoenix has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Larson off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Phoenix displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Larson darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Ian Larson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Larson doesn't succeed with the takedown and Phoenix counters with a shoot takedown. Larson fights it but they end up in guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. This has been an exciting period of action! Phoenix gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. No luck with that takedown attempt from Phoenix. Phoenix changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Larson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Phoenix misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Phoenix is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Larson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Phoenix creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Larson sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. The ground and pound from Phoenix seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Larson is pushing Phoenix's head away, looking to escape. Phoenix manages to hold on to the position though. Phoenix has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Phoenix stands up and we're back to a striking position. Phoenix changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Larson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Larson takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Phoenix trying to control the action but Larson is working from the bottom. Phoenix might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Larson kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Phoenix has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Larson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

and Phoenix counters with a shoot takedown. Larson fights it but they end up in guard. Ian Larson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Phoenix throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Phoenix gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Phoenix shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Larson napping and manages to drive through into side control! Phoenix decides to stand back up. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Larson tries to keep at a distance but Phoenix has taken the fight into the clinch. Phoenix throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Larsons head. Larson works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Paul Phoenix is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Phoenix managing to control the position.
And that's the end of the fight! Paul Phoenix comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Phoenix has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
