PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vladimir Andreev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrei Sherstikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vladimir Andreev looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Vladimir Andreev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Andrei Sherstikov!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crunch! Sherstikov slams his shin into Andreev's torso.
Jeez, both these guys look absolutely knackered already, that's not a good sign!
Horrible takedown by Sherstikov or perhaps it was just good defense by Andreev which made him look bad.
Sherstikov shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Andreev as he jumps to the side.

Andreev closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Andreev manages to break the clinch.

Andreev scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Andreev cracks Sherstikov with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Andreev scores with a couple of short elbows.

Sherstikov tries to buck Andreev off but Andreev is having none of it.

Sherstikov is not content to let Andreev control the position.
Sherstikov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Andreev. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Andreev goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Sherstikov rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Andreev's guard! Nice work there by Sherstikov!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sherstikov won't allow Andreev to sweep him here.
Andreev really is a fat lump.
Andreev not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Andreev has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Andreev manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sherstikov manages to get himself to full guard.

Andreev closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sherstikov to the mat! Sherstikov manages to get full guard.

Sherstikov is trying to control the position but Andreev postures up.

Andreev tries to free his leg and advance position but Sherstikov is retaining full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Andreev lands a couple of digs.

Sherstikov has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Andreev can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Sherstikov has his takedown stuffed

and Andreev counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Sherstikov is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Andreev is aware though and is defending well.
Sherstikov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Andreev is one step ahead there.
Sherstikov not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Andreev wants to control from the top but Sherstikov keeps moving.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Andreev stands up from Sherstikov's guard - Andreev perhaps looking for a knockout.
Andreev avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Andreev closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sherstikov to the mat! Sherstikov manages to get full guard.
Sherstikov is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Sherstikov uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Andreev bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Andreev takes advantage of some sloppy striking from Sherstikov to pass into mount.
Andreev takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Andreev's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Sherstikov reaches up to try and control the position but Andreev seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Sherstikov rolls and tries to escape and now Andreev has his back!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Andreev trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Andreev is really struggling to control Sherstikov but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Andreev lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Andreev.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Andreev is hanging on to Sherstikov's back as he tries to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Andreev counters with a shoot takedown. Sherstikov fights it but they end up in guard.
Andreev wants to control from the top but Sherstikov keeps moving.

and Andreev decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Sherstikov's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Sherstikov lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Andreev shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Sherstikov manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Sherstikov has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Sherstikov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Andreev doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Andreev manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Andreev stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Sherstikov doesn't manage to clinch there - Andreev circles away.

Andreev gets a takedown into half guard.
Sherstikov is trying to control but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Andreev frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Sherstikov has given up his back here.
Andreev has the hooks in. Sherstikov is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Andreev is riding his opponent, not letting Sherstikov buck him off.
Sherstikov trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
I would not like to be Sherstikov right now.
Andreev has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Will Andreev go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Vladimir Andreev wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Sherstikov throws a nice inside leg kick.
Andrei Sherstikov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Vladimir Andreev is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Andreev throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Sherstikov was covering up waiting for the punch and Andreev finishes the takedown easily into guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Vladimir Andreev showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Andreev, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
