PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nigel Lovelace (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fedor Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nigel Lovelace!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Fedor Emelianenko!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Eliza Hachem and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Emelianenko changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lovelace tries to avoid it but Emelianenko manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lovelace to the ground. Lovelace escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Lovelace could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Lovelace drags the fight down to the ground.
Emelianenko tries to free his leg and advance position but Lovelace is retaining full guard.
Lovelace looking to hit a scissor sweep but Emelianenko is one step ahead there.

Lovelace knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Emelianenko on the ground.

Emelianenko is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Emelianenko wants to pass the guard but Lovelace is keeping the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Emelianenko is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Emelianenko gets the takedown into side control.
Lovelace is looking for a sweep.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lovelace trying his best to control but Emelianenko has mounted him.

Emelianenko swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Lovelace is now in Emelianenko's guard. A big mistake from Emelianenko there, giving up the dominant position!
Lovelace stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Emelianenko swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Emelianenko throws his legs up looking for a submission but Lovelace uses it to pass to side control.
Emelianenko looks gassed!
Lovelace tries to move to mount but Emelianenko blocks the move with his legs.
Emelianenko tries to buck Lovelace off but Lovelace is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lovelace is looking to take a break and control but Emelianenko is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Emelianenko is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Lovelace's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Emelianenko wants to sweep but Lovelace has passed to side control!
Emelianenko manages to get back to half guard.
Lovelace wants to stand up but Emelianenko has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Emelianenko is looking for a sweep. Lovelace is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Lovelace tries to stand but can't do so whilst Emelianenko controls his leg.
Lovelace trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Emelianenko moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Lovelace tries to stand but Emelianenko is controlling from the bottom.
Lovelace trying to control the position from guard on top but Emelianenko is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Lovelace trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Emelianenko fails with the takedown.
Lovelace throws a nasty head kick that just misses. He throws another kick to the head of his opponent and almost takes it off! Emelianenko crumples to the floor and the fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:12 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Nigel Lovelace!
