PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sheikh Hasina Wazed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lyoto Machida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sheikh Hasina Wazed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lyoto Machida!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Winston Howard and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wazed pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Machida will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Wazed shoots for a double leg takedown but Machida sprawls well. He's pushed Wazed's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Machida checks a low kick from Wazed.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A telegraphed right hand from Wazed misses the target.
Machida keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Machida throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Wazed.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Wazed misses with a head kick.
Machida throws a nice looking combination but Wazed bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Machida lands a glancing blow to the side of Wazed's head.
Wazed misses with a head kick.
A head kick misses from Wazed.
Wazed takes a swing at Machida's ribcage but misses.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Wazed misses with a low kick.
Wazed showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Machida.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Machida throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Wazed.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lyoto Machida dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Machida looks to land a combination. Wazed sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Wazed throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Wazed shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Machida but Machida pushes him off and we're back to square one.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wazed closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wazed takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wazed is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Machida doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Wazed.

Machida is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Wazed pulls his head out easily.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Wazed is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Machida has managed to free his arm - good work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Machida is looking to improve his position.
Wazed is taking a breather. Machida says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Wazed wants to pass to mount but Machida is defending the position.
Machida wants to get back to full guard but Wazed has mounted him!

Wazed looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Wazed seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Machida for as long as he can get away with.
Wazed's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Machida tries to buck Wazed off but he can't manage it.

Machida is looking to improve his position but Wazed isn't that keen on the idea.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Sheikh Hasina Wazed just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Machida throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sheikh Hasina Wazed dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Wazed shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Machida as he jumps to the side.
Wazed looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Machida is fending him off so far but Wazed persists. Nope, Machida circles away and we're back to standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A head kick misses from Wazed.

Nice defenses there by Machida.
Machida fails to land with a series of punches.
Wazed walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Machida checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
A head kick misses from Wazed.
Wazed throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Machida blocks a head kick by Wazed.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Machida lands with a nice combination. Wazed backs away looking to recover.
Sheikh Hasina Wazed seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Machida moves away from the strike by Wazed.
Wazed throws a low kick but Machida avoids it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Wazed fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sheikh Hasina Wazed. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wazed misses with a body shot.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lyoto Machida comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Machida has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
