PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jake Ace (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Cotton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ace comes to the cage accompanied by Heroes to us. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Ace!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Peter Cotton!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cotton gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Ace to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Ace wants to get up but he can't break Cotton's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Ace wants to pass the guard but Cotton is keeping the position.
Cotton is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Cotton is looking to stand back up but Ace counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Cotton.

Cotton is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ace is taking a breather. Cotton says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Cotton moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ace passes Cotton's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Cotton is trying is best to control the position here.
Ace is looking to advance position but Cotton won't allow it.
Ace is trying to control. Cotton wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The fighters are battling for position here. Cotton manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Ace tries to free his leg and advance position but Cotton is retaining full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Ace moves into the clinch successfully.
Ace fails to pull guard.
Ace goes for a takedown in the clinch but Cotton prevents it.
Ace has Cotton pressed against the cage, preventing Cotton from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Cotton pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Cotton misses with a few strikes there.
Cotton has his takedown stuffed

so Ace counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Cotton is controlling Ace's posture.
Cotton keeping moving, preventing Ace from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Ace dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Cotton throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Ace counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Cotton lands a right hand.
Ace will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Cotton up against the cage.

Cotton's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Ace moves in looking to clinch but Cotton pushes him off.
Cotton scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Ace connects with a good right hand that stumbles Cotton. Cotton circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

and Ace counters by moving into the clinch.
Ace is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Cotton has a couple of punches blocked by Ace.
Ace tries for a takedown but Cotton manages to get underhooks.

Cotton breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Peter Cotton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ace tries to work over Cotton's front leg with a kick but Cotton checks it.

and Ace counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Cotton is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Cotton wants to get back to full guard.
Cotton is breathing heavily.
Ace trying to control the action but Cotton is working from the bottom.

Ace stands up and beckons Cotton to join him on the feet.

Cotton misses with a hook. Ace ducked under it nicely.
Cotton falls off balance throwing a combination
and Cotton takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Ace is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

and Ace connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Cotton looks to land a combination but Ace avoids it well.

and Ace decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cotton's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cotton utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ace stands and steps away. Cotton gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Ace shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cotton but Cotton pushes him off and we're back to square one.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Ace. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ace shoots for a double leg takedown but Cotton sprawls well. He's pushed Ace's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Ace throwing strikes here but Cotton is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Ace fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Cotton has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Ace's lack of action.
Jake Ace overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cotton tries to get to full guard but Ace has control of the leg.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Ace has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Cotton avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
