PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ren Duran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kon Kastas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Kon Kastas was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ren Duran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kon Kastas!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Bruno Hogan and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kastas fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Duran avoids it really well and circles away.

Duran closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Duran will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Kastas up against the cage.
Kastas misses with a knee strike.

Duran gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Kastas kicks Duran off and gets back to his feet.
Kastas shoots for a takedown but Duran saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kastas is squirming around, avoiding Duran's attempts to control the action.
Kastas is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Duran throwing strikes here but Kastas is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Duran is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Duran is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kastas is just riding it out for now. Duran eventually gives up the hold.

Duran is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kastas doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Duran.

Kastas avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Duran.
Duran seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kastas does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Duran rushes Kastas and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Duran drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Kastas manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Duran has Kastas in his guard.
Kastas is looking to work some ground and pound but Duran has wrist control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Kastas has his takedown stuffed

and Duran counters with a single leg into guard. Kastas didn't expect that.

Duran postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Kastas is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Duran, into his guard.
Kastas slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Kastas stands up and beckons Duran to join him on the feet.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Duran closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Duran lands in his opponent's guard.
Duran in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Duran wants to pass the guard but Kastas is keeping the position.

Duran drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kastas looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kastas looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kastas!
Kastas throws a strike aimed at the side of Duran's head but Duran avoids it well.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ren Duran showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Duran has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
