PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Taeg Chang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bogie McGill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Taeg Chang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bogie McGill!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Ren Mimura and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chang circles away from the clinch attempt.
Chang shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with McGill but McGill pushes him off and we're back to square one.
McGill moves in looking to clinch but Chang pushes him off.
McGill tries to close the distance and clinch up but Chang swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Chang avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
McGill doesn't manage to clinch there - Chang circles away.
McGill goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McGill displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Chang.
Chang dives in and grabs McGill's left leg, looking for a takedown. McGill pushes down on Chang's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Taeg Chang. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Chang is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because McGill is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


McGill misses with the combination.

and McGill counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Chang escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. McGill gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
McGill wants to stand but Chang has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Chang is controlling McGill's posture.

McGill passes into half guard.
McGill works his way into side control.
Chang gets back to half guard.
Chang is staying active underneath McGill, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Chang is looking to control McGill's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Chang avoid being mounted?

Chang wants to control but McGill is keeping busy.
McGill thows a huge punch but Chang dodges it nicely.

Chang is defending against the submission attempts here by McGill.
McGill looks to land a strike but Chang avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
McGill slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
McGill wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chang keeps working.

McGill decides to stand back up. McGill steps back and let's Chang get back to his feet.

Chang is really struggling to control McGill but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Chang postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

We're going to have a standup here because Taeg Chang wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Chang looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
McGill wants to control but Chang is keeping busy and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Bogie McGill will probably get the nod - 10:9.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Chang doesn't succeed with the takedown

so McGill counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

McGill has gone for a leg lock! Chang slips out almost immediately though and dives into McGill's guard.
Chang trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Chang postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! McGill is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Chang, into his guard.

McGill throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Chang controls McGill momentarily but McGill frees himself.
McGill passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Chang sneaks back into half guard.
Chang wants to control but McGill is keeping busy and won't allow it.

McGill is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Chang doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time McGill.

McGill seems to be working for a kimura but Chang defends the submission attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
McGill lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
McGill passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Chang!
McGill trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Bogie McGill has got the better of the ground game so far.

McGill scoring with strikes but Chang is staying in there.
Chang tries to hold on but McGill postures up.
Poor strikes thrown by McGill there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

McGill is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Chang has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Chang!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Chang accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Chang stands up and waves to McGill to follow him.
McGill closes the distance but Chang moves to the side

and Chang counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Chang is pressing down on McGill's thigh, looking to free his foot. McGill is holding on for now.
McGill is trying to maintain the position but Chang is very close to passing his half guard.
McGill preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Bogie McGill.
I think McGill has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
