Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jake Hiil! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Sparrow! The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Hugh Johnson and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sparrow doesn't manage to clinch there - Hiil circles away.
Sparrow throws a series of punches but Hiil moves out of range. Hiil tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sparrow swivels and escapes. Sparrow throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Sparrow gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Hiil gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Sparrow regains guard.
Sparrow utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Sparrow can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Hiil controls the pace. Hiil looking to pass the guard. Hiil trying to control but Sparrow is working from the bottom. Hiil looking to pass the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hiil sitting in guard, not really doing much. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hiil is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Hiil is pushing down on Sparrow's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sparrow is fighting to maintain full guard but Hiil has managed to sneak the leg through. Hiil scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Hiil drops an elbow to the side of Sparrow's head. Sparrow is trying to stand.
Hiil is keen to just control but Sparrow is a slippery customer. Hiil is looking for a kimura here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hiil working over Sparrow with some ground and pound. Sparrow looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Sparrow actively working from the bottom here. Hiil working the head and body with strikes. Hiil in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Sparrow tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Hiil!
