Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Gravel! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matheus Oliveira! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Daniel Cesar and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gravel drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gravel wants to control but Oliveira is keeping him busy. Oliveira wants to control but Gravel postures up. Gravel stands up and we're back to a striking position. Gravel closes the distance and clinches. Gravel breaks the clinch.
Gravel darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Oliveira tries to get to full guard but Gravel has control of the leg. Gravel knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Oliveira on the ground. Gravel is trying to control the action in half guard but Oliveira is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Oliveira gets full guard. Gravel wanted to stand there but Oliveira had control of the position. Gravel decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Oliveira has his takedown stuffed and Gravel counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Gravel. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Gravel trying to control the position from guard on top but Oliveira is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's one minute gone in the round. Oliveira has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gravel can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Oliveira looks gassed! Oliveira keeping moving, preventing Gravel from controlling successfully. Gravel tries to free his leg and advance position but Oliveira is retaining full guard. Oliveira working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gravel doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gravel manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Gravel thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Gravel stands up and waves to Oliveira to follow him. Gravel tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gravel feints and as Oliveira raises his hands in defense, Gravel changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Oliveira is looking to sinch up a triangle. Gravel throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Oliveira's body to avoid the submission. Oliveira has instead reached around Gravel's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Oliveira arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Matheus Oliveira!
