Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mike Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Corey Alves!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Sosuke Kotani and Kenichi Hosakawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Alves is defended easily by Smith.
Alves shoots in but Smith avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Alves fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Mike Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Corey Alves.
Smith drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Alves is not content to let Smith control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Alves is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Alves pushes Smith away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Smith gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Smith throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Smith wants to take a breather but Alves is having none of it.
Smith is nestled in close to Alves, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Smith is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Smith fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Alves sprawls well initially but Smith persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Smith looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Alves with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Smith is trying to control the action in half guard but Alves is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Smith seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Smith cracks Alves with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Smith pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Alves is rocked!
Smith controlling the pace for now.
Mike Smith is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Smith seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Alves for as long as he can get away with.

Smith's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Well Smith has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
