The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

hicks tries to keep at a distance but Vander has taken the fight into the clinch.

and Vander holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
hicks is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Vander is keeping busy.

hicks ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. hicks no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Vander tries to stand but hicks is controlling from the bottom.
hicks is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Vander wants to stand but hicks is controlling his posture from full guard.

hicks escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Vander gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Vander wants to get up but he can't break hicks's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
hicks is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Vander.

It looks like mike hicks has been cut.

Vander lands a big shot that drops hicks! Can he finish him?

hicks escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Vander gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Vander trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Vander on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Vander throws a right hand that hicks ducks under and follows up with a left that hicks also avoids with ease.

Vander moves into the clinch.

Vander breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
hicks wants to clinch
and Vander connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
A telegraphed right hand from Vander misses the target.
Vander fails to land with a series of punches.
Vander misses with a two punch combination.
Vander takes a kick to the side of the head.
Vander looks to land a combination but hicks avoids it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

hicks is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Vander looks to land a combination but hicks avoids it well.

and Vander counters with a series of strikes that sends hicks to the canvas! Vander follows down into guard, looking to finish the fight!
hicks is still in real trouble! Can Vander finish him?

Vander stands and steps away. hicks gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Vander tries to bum rush hicks with a series of wild strikes but hicks uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
hicks is breathing heavily.
Vander looks to land a combination but hicks avoids it well.
hicks seems to have recovered his senses.
hicks darts in trying to clinch
and Vander counters with a big right hand! Oh hicks is in trouble here! Vander follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!
