Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Frank McDonald!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Bonham Carter!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McDonald misses with a takedown attempt - Carter sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
McDonald tries to clinch but Carter moves out of range.
McDonald fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
McDonald is looking to clinch but Carter is avoiding it.
McDonald looks for a takedown but Carter sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank McDonald. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McDonald misses with an uppercut. Carter saw that one coming.
McDonald shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Carter defends it nicely.
Carter looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? McDonald is fending him off so far but Carter persists. Nope, McDonald circles away and we're back to standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McDonald shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Carter counters by clinching up.
Carter creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Carter lands an elbow that stopped McDonald in his tracks for a moment.
McDonald jumps guard but Carter stands there with McDonald around his waist. McDonald gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
McDonald is trying to force a seperation but Carter has the dominant position.
Carter takes a knee to the side of the body.
Carter stalls.
Carter using the Thai plumb to throw knees but McDonald has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Carter escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Carter misses with a head kick.
Carter tries for a takedown but McDonald sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
McDonald avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
McDonald tries to close the distance and clinch up but Carter swats him away and circles back towards the center.
A jab from Carter finds it's way through McDonald's defenses.
Carter doesn't succeed with the takedown

and McDonald decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Carter's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McDonald thows a big elbow that misses.
McDonald showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
McDonald postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
McDonald is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Carter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
McDonald tries to free his leg and advance position but Carter is retaining full guard.

Carter tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carter looks gassed!

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Carter drives through with a takedown into guard.
McDonald lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Carter!
McDonald can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Carter is looking to escape.
Carter is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

McDonald unloads with some shots from mount but Carter bucks and avoids them well.
Carter wants to control but McDonald is having none of it.

McDonald jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Carter manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Carter seems a little lost for a moment, as McDonald dominates the positioning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Frank McDonald will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by McDonald!
Carter closes the distance looking to clinch
and McDonald counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Carter fails with the takedown

and McDonald counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

McDonald stands and steps away. Carter gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Carter clinches.
McDonald lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
McDonald prevents the takedown attempt.

McDonald escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
McDonald blocks the body kick.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

McDonald fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Carter sprawls well initially but McDonald persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Still in half guard, McDonald seems content to control.
Carter is trying to get back to full guard.
Carter wants to control but McDonald is keeping busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Carter is not content to let McDonald control the position.
Carter is trying to get back to full guard.

McDonald stands up and beckons Carter to join him on the feet.
McDonald gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Carter counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in McDonald's guard now.
Carter throws a big right hand that misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McDonald keeping moving, preventing Carter from controlling successfully.

McDonald is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Carter is aware though and is defending well.

Carter decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Carter shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Carter showed some decent athleticism there.
Carter is trying to control. McDonald wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

McDonald wants to control but Carter is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Carter wants to stand up but McDonald is controlling the position.
McDonald tries to get to full guard but Carter has control of the leg.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Carter is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank McDonald dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



McDonald shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

McDonald stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Carter swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Carter looking for a sweep. Not yet Carter, not yet.

McDonald shoots in for a takedown but Carter shows good takedown defense.

Carter moves into the clinch successfully.

Carter jumps into guard, dragging McDonald to the mat.

McDonald trying to control but Carter is working from the bottom.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
McDonald keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Carter's head.

Carter pushes McDonald off and scrambles back to his feet.
McDonald closes the distance looking to clinch
and Carter counters with a two punch combo.
McDonald tries to close the distance and clinch but Carter swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Carter closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Carter wants to pass the guard but McDonald is defending well.

McDonald actively working from the bottom here.
Frank McDonald overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Carter uses his free foot to push down on McDonald's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for McDonald.
McDonald srikes from the bottom but he's lost position and has given up his back.

Carter working for a choke but McDonald is defending well.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McDonald manages to reverse the position and now he's in Carter's guard. Nice work there by McDonald.

McDonald gets to his feet - Carter follows without any prompting.

McDonald shoots in and bounces Carter off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Carter keeping moving, preventing McDonald from controlling successfully.
Bonham Carter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Frank McDonald is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
McDonald has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
McDonald is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Frank McDonald.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for McDonald, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
