Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David Eagle! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Diego Sanchez! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Ian Loll and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Eagle tries to clinch up. Sanchez feints and as Eagle raises his hands in defense, Sanchez changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Sanchez postures up.
Eagle is really struggling to control Sanchez but he's trying to hold on to the position. Sanchez stands and steps away. Eagle gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Eagle delivers a nice body kick. Eagle shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Sanchez counters with a takedown into side control. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Eagle tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Sanchez wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Sanchez tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Eagle is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sanchez tries to pass to full mount but Eagle defends it. Sanchez wants to work for an arm triangle but Eagle is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Eagle wants to get back to his feet.
Eagle really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Eagle is trying to control but can't.
Sanchez trying to control the action but Eagle is working from the bottom. Eagle is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Eagle throws a half hearted mid kick. Eagle misses with a takedown attempt and Sanchez decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Eagle's guard. Sanchez trying to stand up but can't free himself from Eagle's guard. Eagle tries to strike from the bottom.
Sanchez gets to his feet. Eagle looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Sanchez scores a takedown into full mount! Eagle is breathing heavily. Sanchez sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sanchez postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Eagle looks a forlorn figure.
Eagle is looking to get to half guard. Eagle tries to lock up and control but Sanchez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Eagle defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Sanchez. Sanchez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Sanchez cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Sanchez working for a guillotine from mount but Eagle is in no mood to give up. Eagle looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back! Sanchez lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Eagle hold on?!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Eagle is really stuck here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Diego Sanchez dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Eagle with a lazy takedown attempt and Sanchez counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Eagle! Eagle tries to hold on but Sanchez pushes him away. Sanchez connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Sanchez sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Eagle is trying to get back to his feet but can't. Sanchez looking to control but Eagle is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Sanchez raining down shots from the mount! Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. That's one minute gone in the round. Sanchez punishing his opponent with strikes. Sanchez landing strikes from the mount and Eagle is in trouble! Sanchez landing strikes from the mount and Eagle is in trouble! Sanchez seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Eagle is holding on tight.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Eagle is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Eagle defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Sanchez. Sanchez has hold of Eagle's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Eagle manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Eagle is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Sanchez looking to control but Eagle is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Sanchez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Eagle tries to lock up and control but Sanchez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Sanchez tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Sanchez is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Eagle is surviving well by controlling Sanchez's body position as best he can. Sanchez is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Sanchez extends the arm and Eagle is forced to tap!
