Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Masaru Hirai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Rash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hirai is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Matt Rash has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Masaru Hirai! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Matt Rash! The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Fujiwara.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rash closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Rash lands in his opponent's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hirai is breathing heavily. Rash trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Rash is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Hirai has momentary wrist control but Rash slips an elbow through the middle. Rash slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Rash scoring with some ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hirai working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Rash. Rash stands and steps away. Hirai gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Rash drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rash cracks Hirai with a solid left hand. Rash seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Rash gets to his feet. Hirai looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rash fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Rash shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hirai is trying to defend but Rash finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Hirai won't allow Rash to pass to mount. Rash has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Rash controlling the action here. Rash looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hirai taking some punishment here, with Rash in his half guard. Rash working the head and body with strikes. Rash looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Rash gets a takedown into half guard. Rash frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Rash controlling from the full mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Matt Rash dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Rash fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hirai, pushing him back against the cage. Rash pushes Hirai back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. Rash manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Rash lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Hirai! Rash looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Rash looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

That's one minute gone in the round. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Rash cracks Hirai with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Rash controlling from mount. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Rash cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Rash controlling his opponent. Hirai is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. Rash lands a nice shot to the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A nice elbow there by Rash. Rash lands a nice shot to the head. Rash tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Rash fails to move to back control. Rash lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Hirai wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Rash has hold of Hirai's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Hirai manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Rash controlling the position easily from mount. Hirai tries to buck Rash off but he can't manage it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Matt Rash showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Rash, as that shot connected.
The fight moves into the clinch position. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Rash. Rash wants the takedown. Hirai is fighting it off but Rash persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Hirai's guard against the cage.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Matt Rash. Rash fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Rash tries to land a leg kick but Hirai saw it coming and moves away.
Rash shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Rash is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Rash stops Hirai from getting back to his feet.
Rash lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Rash is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

That's one minute gone in the round. Rash lands strikes from half guard. Rash seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Hirai tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Rash manages to move to mount!
Rash takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. The referee warns Hirai that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Rash lands a nice shot to the head. Rash content just to control the position here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hirai defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Rash. Matt Rash has got the better of the ground game so far. Rash working away from the top, dropping strikes. Rash controlling from mount. Rash with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Rash landing strikes from the mount and Hirai is in trouble! Rash content just to control the position here.
And that's the end of the fight! Matt Rash comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Rash has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
