PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vladimir Bruzinski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucian Bute (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bruzinski comes to the cage accompanied by Hello. On his way into the cage it seems that Vladimir Bruzinski has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Vladimir Bruzinski seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vladimir Bruzinski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Lucian Bute!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Vladimir Khabensky and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bruzinski fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Bute checks it well.
Lucian Bute seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bute shoots in but no luck this time.
Bruzinski throws a leg kick but Bute moved away.
Bute tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bruzinski paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Bute tries to clinch up but Bruzinski circles away and keeps his distance.
Bute shoots in for a takedown but Bruzinski shows good takedown defense.
Bute shoots in but no luck this time.
Vladimir Bruzinski has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lucian Bute.

Bruzinski decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Bruzinski in particular looking to stall.

Bruzinski seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Bute for as long as he can get away with.

Bute tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Bruzinski just stands there and leans against the cage.

Bute has had enough of the clinch but Bruzinski keeps him there for the moment.

Bruzinski is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Bute pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Bruzinski breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bute with a lazy takedown attempt

and Bruzinski decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Bute's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bruzinski accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Bruzinski wants to control from the top but Bute keeps moving.
Bruzinski controls from within his opponent's guard.
Bruzinski connects with a couple of short punches.
Bruzinski chips away with some ground and pound.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Vladimir Bruzinski just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Bute misses with a takedown

and Bruzinski counters with a shoot takedown. Bute fights it but they end up in guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Bruzinski has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Bruzinski bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bute's guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Bruzinski drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bruzinski jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Bute tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Bute will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Bruzinski stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bute swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Bruzinski counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Bruzinski is keen to just control but Bute is a slippery customer.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Bute tries to lock up and control but Bruzinski gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Bute reaches up to try and control the position but Bruzinski seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Bute rolls and tries to escape and now Bruzinski has his back!

Bute wants to control his opponent's hands but Bruzinski gets his hands free.
Bute is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Bute is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Bruzinski gets his way!

Bute is trying to defend against the choke here but Bruzinski has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Bruzinski Tightens the hold and Bute taps out furiously! Bruzinski displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
