Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ben Askren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eloy Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ben Askren!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eloy Diaz!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Jorge Garcia and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Askren shoots in for a takedown but Diaz shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Eloy Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Diaz throws a body punch but Askren moves out of range.
Diaz tries to clinch but Askren moves out of range.
Askren blocks a head kick by Diaz.
Diaz looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Askren will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Diaz gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Diaz controls Askren momentarily but Askren frees himself.
Askren throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Askren throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Diaz works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Askren is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Diaz lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Askren!
Diaz throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Askren is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Diaz throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Askren because Diaz loaded up on that one.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Diaz swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Askren is now in Diaz's guard. A big mistake from Diaz there, giving up the dominant position!

That was a close round but I would say that Ben Askren will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Askren has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Diaz off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Diaz is pushing down on Askren's leg trying to pass to half guard. Askren is fighting to maintain full guard but Diaz has managed to sneak the leg through.
Diaz is just content to waste time from the top position. Askren takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Diaz wants to pass the guard but Askren is keeping the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Askren pulls Diaz in to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Askren wants to sweep here but Diaz controlling him for the moment.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ben Askren dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Askren shoots in and drives through. Diaz sprawls well.
A big left from Diaz misses.
A looping hook to the body misses from Diaz. Askren does a little dance to reset his feet.
Diaz throws a head kick that misses.
Diaz misses with a wild combination.
Diaz throws a right and a left that both miss.
Askren changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Diaz tries to avoid it but Askren manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Diaz to the ground. Diaz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Askren takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Askren shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Diaz as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ben Askren. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Diaz throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Diaz rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Askren moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Askren fails with a takedown attempt.
Askren shoots in looking for a takedown. Diaz tries to sprawl out of it but Askren keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Diaz manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Askren stands up over Diaz, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Ben Askren is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Askren throws a strike but Diaz rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Askren can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Diaz controls the pace.

Diaz is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Askren is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Askren has escaped and now he's on top!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Askren, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
