Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Blaine Stone! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Carl Wellington! The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Hugh Johnson and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wellington slips under a jab. Wellington looks for a takedown but Stone sprawls well. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Wellington is defended easily by Stone. Wellington drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Stone struggling a bit here. Stone is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Wellington's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Wellington throws a strike but Stone avoids it easily and moves to full guard. Stone wants to sweep here but Wellington controlling him for the moment. Wellington got a little sloppy there for a moment and Stone has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wellington has managed to get both his arms back between Stone's legs - danger averted. Stone looking to hit a scissor sweep but Wellington is one step ahead there. Wellington content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stone has his foot on Wellington's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wellington works his way back into a safe position though. Wellington in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Wellington preventing the sweep. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Stone connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wellington blocking the ground and pound. Stone jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Wellington manages to avoid the submission attempt. Stone throwing shots but missing, from side control. Wellington parries the strikes from Stone easily there. Stone is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Wellington to escape.

Stone fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Wellington sprawls well initially but Stone persists and gets the takedown into half guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Wellington can do anything to dispel that myth. Stone looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Wellington with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Stone lands strikes from half guard. Stone working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Wellington's thigh. Wellington counters though and makes it back to full guard. Stone working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Wellington is pulling down on Stone's head. It's preventing any offense from Stone, at least for the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Stone is looking to work some ground and pound but Wellington has wrist control. Stone trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Wellington pulls Stone in close to his closed guard and prevents Stone from doing any damage or advancing position. Stone throws a big right hand that misses. Wellington blocking the ground and pound attempt from Stone. Stone throws a strike but Wellington avoids it easily and moves to full guard. Stone trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Wellington really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stone. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Stone trying to control the position from guard on top but Wellington is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Stone throwing strikes from guard but Wellington blocks nicely. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Wellington working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Stone. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stone works the jab nicely. Wellington shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Stone counters with a single leg into guard. Wellington didn't expect that. Stone is pushing down on Wellington's leg trying to pass to half guard. Wellington is fighting to maintain full guard but Stone has managed to sneak the leg through. Wellington won't allow Stone to pass to mount. Wellington tries to get to full guard but Stone has control of the leg. Stone seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move.
