PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Caleb Dickson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Victor Sagat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Victor Sagat told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Caleb Dickson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Victor Sagat!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sagat avoids the head kick by Dickson.

Dickson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sagat looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Dickson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Dickson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Sagat is trying to buck Dickson off.
Sagat is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Dickson goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Sagat has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Dickson but great work by Sagat.

Sagat postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Dickson tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Sagat wants to stand but Dickson has his arm trapped.

Dickson is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Sagat's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Sagat has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dickson darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Sagat fails with an attempt to clinch.
Sagat tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Dickson paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sagat throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sagat looks gassed!
Dickson goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Sagat throws a sloppy head kick and Dickson moves out of range easily.
Dickson catches Sagat with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sagat swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Dickson works over Sagat's head and body with a nice combination.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dickson lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Dickson stalks Sagat and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Sagat's face. Sagat staggers backwards, shaken.

Dickson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Dickson drops back looking for a leg! Sagat is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sagat manages to kick Dickson off! Dickson jumps back into Sagat's guard.

Dickson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Dickson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Dickson drops back looking for a leg! Sagat is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sagat manages to kick Dickson off! Dickson jumps back into Sagat's guard.

Sagat wants to get back to his feet but Dickson is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Dickson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Dickson connects with a couple of short punches.
Dickson is pushing down on Sagat's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sagat is fighting to maintain full guard but Dickson has managed to sneak the leg through.

Dickson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Dickson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Sagat sees it coming and defends easily.

Sagat is defending against the submission attempts here by Dickson.
Sagat keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Dickson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Caleb Dickson dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Sagat tries to clinch but Dickson is having none of it.
Sagat throws a head kick that misses.

Dickson looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Sagat tries to kick Dickson off but Dickson keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Dickson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sagat pushes Dickson off looking to stand but Dickson dives back in and keeps control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dickson in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Sagat tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Dickson!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:01 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Caleb Dickson!
