PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Quik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shelton Lane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Johnny Quik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Shelton Lane!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, William Gold and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lane fails in his attempt to clinch.
Quik shoots for a double leg takedown but Lane sprawls well. He's pushed Quik's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Quik avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Lane steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Quik. That one must have hurt.
Quik looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lane is fending him off so far but Quik persists. Nope, Lane circles away and we're back to standing.
Lane gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Quik tries to clinch up but Lane circles away and keeps his distance.
Quik fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnny Quik. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Lane shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Lane was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Quik tries to hold on but Lane pushes him away.

Quik tries to hold on but Lane postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Quik is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Lane lands a heavy elbow.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Quik is in a horrible position here. Lane smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Lane landing strikes from the mount.
Quik tries to lock up and control but Lane gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Quik is trying desperately to improve position.
Quik throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Lane prevents Quik from getting the reversal.
Quik is breathing heavily.
Lane lands a heavy elbow.

Quik can't escape the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Quik takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Quik wants to hold on but Lane pushes him away.
Lane controlling from the full mount.
Quik wants to control but Lane is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shelton Lane dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Lane closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Quik to the mat! Quik manages to get full guard.
Quik is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Quik wants to stand and escape but Lane is having none of it.
Lane must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Lane stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Quik swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Quik is trying to control the position but Lane postures up.
Lane wants to control from the top but Quik keeps moving.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lane accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Lane avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Lane tries to free his leg and advance position but Quik is retaining full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Lane has taken the fight to the clinch.
Quik is trying to break the clinch but Lane has him pressed against the cage.
Lane gets underhooks to prevent Quik's takedown attempt.

Lane has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Quik uses from the top position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Quik accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Quik passes Lane's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Quik trying to control the action but Lane is working from the bottom.
Lane works his way to full guard. Good work.

Lane looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Quik trying to control the position from guard on top but Lane is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Quik drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Lane dives on top into guard.
Lane slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Quik tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Quik controls Lane momentarily but Lane frees himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Quik lands a couple of decent looking body shots there.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Lane's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Quik preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Lane stays in close to Quik's body and controls the position.
Lane won't allow Quik to sweep him here.
Quik working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Lane.

Lane postures up in Quik's guard and throws a big left but Quik blocks it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Quik wants to clinch.
Lane will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Lane instigates a clinch.
A short body shot lands from Lane as the two fighters clinch.
Lane jumps guard but Quik stands there with Lane around his waist. Lane gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Lane works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Quik is trying to keep Lane in close.

Quik looking for a sweep. Not yet Quik, not yet.
Quik keeping moving, preventing Lane from controlling successfully.

Quik looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Lane lands a couple of elbows.
Lane is looking to stand up but Quik won't let him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shelton Lane showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Lane closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Quik goes for a takedown attempt but Lane pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Lane tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Lane misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Lane moves into range and clinches up with Quik.
Lane wants a takedown.

Johnny Quik has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shelton Lane.

Lane escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Johnny Quik is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Quik shoots and misses

and Lane counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Quik's guard now.
Lane is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Quik controls Lane momentarily but Lane frees himself.
Quik looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Quik wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Lane manages to pass to side control.

Quik is trying to maintain the position but Lane is very close to passing his half guard.

Lane looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Lane takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Quik avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Lane.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Quik has his takedown stuffed

and Lane counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Lane.

Quik looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Lane thows a big elbow that misses.
Lane throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Quik works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Quik wants to stand and escape but Lane is having none of it.

Lane avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Quik has his foot on Lane's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Lane works his way back into a safe position though.

Quik manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Lane manages to get himself to full guard.
Shelton Lane has got the better of the ground game so far.
Lane has a closed guard, preventing Quik from standing up.
Lane wants to sweep but no luck.
Quik is looking to work some ground and pound but Lane has wrist control.
Quik trying to control but Lane is working from the bottom.
Lane wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Quik won't allow Lane to sweep him here.

Lane pulls Quik in close to his closed guard and prevents Quik from doing any damage or advancing position.

Lane throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Quik tries for a takedown but Lane circles away easily

and Lane counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Lane in particular looking to stall.
Lane throwing shots but Quik is blocking nicely.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Johnny Quik has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Quik landing rabbit punches to the side of Lane's head. Not doing much damage but still scoring a few points.

Shelton Lane comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Lane winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
