The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Byrne shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lee's guard. Byrne might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Lee looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Byrne trying to control but Lee is working from the bottom. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Lee working for a triangle but Byrne defends it easily.
Byrne got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lee has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Byrne has managed to get both his arms back between Lee's legs - danger averted. Byrne drops back looking for a leg! Lee is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Lee manages to kick Byrne off! Byrne jumps back into Lee's guard. Lee can't keep his opponent in guard - Byrne advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Byrne working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Lee won't allow Byrne to pass to mount. Byrne has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Lee has left one of his arms exposed and Byrne doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Lee screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Simon Byrne!
