PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Philippo da Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Distor Centura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Philippo da Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Distor Centura!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Donatello Bradman and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
da Silva shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Centura is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in da Silva's half guard.
da Silva is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Centura's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Centura's back!
Centura wants to control his opponent's hands but da Silva gets his hands free.
Centura is trying to stand back up.
Centura rolls, trying to escape but da Silva keeps control of the position.

Centura is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Centura really doesn't want to stay on the ground with da Silva. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Centura is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by da Silva.
I really don't envy Centura right now.

da Silva is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

da Silva is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Centura defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
da Silva gets his hands free as Centura looks to control.
Centura rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Centura is looking to control da Silva's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Centura avoid being mounted?

da Silva is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
da Silva is breathing heavily.

Centura is doing well to control the position and prevent da Silva from advancing to side control.
Centura moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Centura is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Centura is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Centura is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Centura postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. da Silva looks a forlorn figure.
da Silva is squirming around, avoiding Centura's attempts to control the action.
da Silva wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
da Silva is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Centura is looking to control da Silva but da Silva is wriggling around and keeping busy.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Centura counters with a shoot takedown. da Silva fights it but they end up in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

da Silva is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Centura trying to control but da Silva is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Distor Centura.

da Silva gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
da Silva will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Centura stands up and waves to da Silva to follow him.

Centura pulls guard effortlessly.
da Silva wants to control from the top but Centura keeps moving.
da Silva advances position into side control!
Centura tries to improve position but can't.
Centura is trying to control da Silva's posture but da Silva avoids it.

Centura tries to bench press da Silva off him but da Silva keeps the position.
Centura wants to control but da Silva postures up.
da Silva works to advance to full mount. Centura defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Centura tries to hold on but da Silva postures up.
da Silva lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Centura tries to lock up and control but da Silva gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

da Silva stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Centura shoots in and bounces da Silva off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

da Silva looking for a guillotine here but Centura defends easily.
Centura throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as da Silva works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Centura must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

da Silva has his foot on Centura's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Centura works his way back into a safe position though.
Centura sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed da Silva's guard.

Distor Centura showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Centura has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Centura is not going to allow da Silva to sit and survive in this position.
Centura doesn't have the hooks in and da Silva manages to turn into his guard.
Centura trying to keep a closed guard but da Silva is proving a slippery customer.

Distor Centura is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Centura advances to mount.

Distor Centura comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Centura has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
