Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Francis Drake! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Ian Mcdonald! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Colin Fotheringham and Richard Clark.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mcdonald shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Mcdonald is thwarting Drake's attempts to control the position. Mcdonald drops an elbow to the side of Drake's head. Mcdonald throwing shots but Drake is blocking nicely. Drake moves into full guard.
Mcdonald working some strikes from top position. Mcdonald is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Mcdonald wants to control from the top but Drake keeps moving. Mcdonald throws and elbow that misses. Drake uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Mcdonald's guard. Nice move by Drake! Mcdonald not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Mcdonald has control of Drake's left arm, preventing Drake from doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mcdonald looking to hit a scissor sweep but Drake is one step ahead there. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Drake wants to stand but Mcdonald has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Drake wants to control from the top but Mcdonald keeps moving.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Mcdonald closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Mcdonald lands in his opponent's guard. Drake tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Drake is trying to control the position but Mcdonald postures up. Mcdonald is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Let's hope that Mcdonald has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Drake working a defensive guard here.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Drake keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Mcdonald tries for a takedown but Drake sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Drake fails with the takedown and Mcdonald counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Drake taking some punishment here, with Mcdonald in his half guard. Drake slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Drake looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mcdonald is one step ahead there.

Mcdonald trying to control the position from guard on top but Drake is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Mcdonald scoring with some ground and pound. Drake is controlling Mcdonald's posture. Mcdonald must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Mcdonald cracks Drake with a solid left hand. Drake wants to sweep but no luck. Mcdonald working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Mcdonald wants to control from the top but Drake keeps moving.

He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Drake works his way back into a safe position though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ian Mcdonald dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Francis Drake wasn't doing enough on the ground. A momentary lapse in concentration from Mcdonald enables Drake to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mcdonald manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Mcdonald looking to control.

Francis Drake has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Mcdonald with a poor takedown and Drake counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Mcdonald has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Drake has passed into side control.
Drake looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Mcdonald is looking for a sweep.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mcdonald trying to remain calm as Drake controls from the top position. Mcdonald prevents Drake from improving position. Mcdonald is looking for a sweep. Mcdonald struggling a bit here. Drake goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Mcdonald has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Drake but great work by Mcdonald. Francis Drake overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Drake manages to get back to half guard. Drake tries to roll over but Mcdonald keeps him under control. Mcdonald looks to land a strike but Drake avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mcdonald in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Drake keeping moving, preventing Mcdonald from controlling successfully. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Drake being controlled here, momentarily. Mcdonald wants to control from the top but Drake keeps moving. Drake looking to control.
Mcdonald is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Drake has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Mcdonald is looking to defend but Drake has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Mcdonald! Drake pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Mcdonald taps out and this one is all over!
