Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 5 - 1, fighting out of London, Steve Fox! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Jonny Mcallister! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Daniel Bishop and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fox fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mcallister sprawls well initially but Fox persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Fox slows the pace down in half guard. Fox is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mcallister is just riding it out for now. Fox eventually gives up the hold. Mcallister really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fox. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Fox trying to pass the guard but Mcallister defending well. Fox not doing much here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Fox missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fox looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Fox wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mcallister keeps working. Fox missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Mcallister blocking the ground and pound attempt from Fox. Fox is pressing down on Mcallister's thigh, looking to free his foot. Mcallister is holding on for now. Fox is looking for a kimura but Mcallister is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Fox to get the leverage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Still in half guard, Fox seems content to control. Fox sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Mcallister defending well though. Fox working the head and body with strikes. Fox content to control rather than advance. Fox seems to be working for a kimura but Mcallister defends the submission attempt. Mcallister is trying to stand up here but Fox is controlling him well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fox not landing any meaningful shots this time. Fox lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Fox has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Fox maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Mcallister could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Fox has cracked it and Mcallister is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Fox!
