PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kitsu Tane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Mad Cow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tane comes to the cage accompanied by Koiji Romanesque. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kitsu Tane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jeff Mad Cow!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tane moves away from the strike by Mad Cow.
Mad Cow fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Tane looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Mad Cow fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Mad Cow misses with a head kick.
Tane has his takedown stuffed
and Mad Cow counters with a two punch combo.
Tane changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mad Cow tries to avoid it but Tane manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mad Cow to the ground. Mad Cow escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Tane misses with a takedown attempt - Mad Cow sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kitsu Tane. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mad Cow throws a nice looking combination but Tane bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Tane goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Mad Cow throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Tane dives in and grabs Mad Cow's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mad Cow pushes down on Tane's head and hops out.
Tane uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Mad Cow.
Mad Cow tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Tane paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Tane shoots and misses

and Mad Cow counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Tane is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Mad Cow looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Tane manages to break the clinch.
Jeff Mad Cow seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The fight stays on the outside here - Mad Cow looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Tane fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Mad Cow.
Mad Cow avoids a punch combination nicely.
Tane plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Mad Cow stuffs the takedown attempt from Tane. Tane gets slowly back to his feet.

Tane shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Tane slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Tane works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Tane seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Tane wants to take a breather but Mad Cow is having none of it.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Tane thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mad Cow's head.
Mad Cow is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Tane scores with a couple of nice shots.
Mad Cow has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Tane is working away from the top position though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Tane lands with a punch from half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kitsu Tane dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Mad Cow misses with a takedown attempt

and Tane moves into the clinch.
Mad Cow is working for takedown but Tane is calmly controlling the position for now.
Mad Cow jumps guard but Tane stands there with Mad Cow around his waist. Mad Cow gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Kitsu Tane has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeff Mad Cow.

Tane pulls guard successfully.
Tane is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Tane has Mad Cow pulled in close to control his posture.
Tane tries to land a sweep but no joy.

We're going to have a standup here because Kitsu Tane wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Tane has Mad Cow up against the cage in a clinch.

Mad Cow wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Tane escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mad Cow shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Tane counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mad Cow won't be happy with that.
Mad Cow is breathing heavily.
Tane wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mad Cow keeps working.

Tane controlling the position from side mount.
Mad Cow is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tane decides to stand up, so the ref orders Mad Cow to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tane shoots for a takedown but Mad Cow saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Mad Cow stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mad Cow wants it to stay on the feet.
Mad Cow throws a right hand that Tane ducks under and follows up with a left that Tane also avoids with ease.

Tane fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mad Cow sprawls well initially but Tane persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Tane wants to take a breather but Mad Cow is having none of it.
Tane content to control rather than advance.

Tane seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mad Cow does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Tane decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Mad Cow tries to score a power double leg takedown but Tane sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mad Cow somewhat.
Tane scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Tane clinches.
Tane drops down looking for an ankle pick but Mad Cow pulls his leg out and moves away.
Tane fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Tane throws a quick inside leg kick.
Tane throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Tane shoots in for a takedown but Mad Cow shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Tane throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mad Cow's waist but Mad Cow gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Tane off to one side.
Tane shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mad Cow defends it nicely.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Tane thows a body kick. Mad Cow tries to catch it but that hurt him.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Tane.

Mad Cow leaves Tane with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Tane changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mad Cow tries to avoid it but Tane manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mad Cow to the ground. Mad Cow escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Tane shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mad Cow sprawls well. Mad Cow wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Tane gets slowly back to his feet.

and Tane counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Tane.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Tane creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
The referee is keeping an eye on Tane - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Tane is working for takedown but Mad Cow is calmly controlling the position for now.
Tane is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Tane's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Mad Cow gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Tane.

Tane manages to break the clinch.
Mad Cow falls off balance throwing a combination
and Tane counters with a head kick. That will keep Mad Cow thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Mad Cow shoots in for a takedown but Tane shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Kitsu Tane is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Mad Cow gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Tane to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Tane stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mad Cow swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Tane slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Jeff Mad Cow has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Tane gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Kitsu Tane showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Tane has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
