PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Takumi Naoki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Bisping (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Takumi Naoki has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 1, fighting out of London, Takumi Naoki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Michael Bisping!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, William Gold and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Naoki shoots in looking for a takedown. Bisping tries to sprawl out of it but Naoki keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bisping manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Naoki shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Naoki was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Naoki is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Bisping can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Naoki looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Naoki takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Naoki get's back to his feet.
Bisping misses with a low kick.
Bisping fails with the takedown

and Naoki counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Bisping wants to control but Naoki is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Naoki wants to work for an arm triangle but Bisping is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Naoki is breathing heavily.
Naoki is keen to just control but Bisping is a slippery customer.
Naoki throwing shots but Bisping is blocking nicely.
Naoki thows a huge punch but Bisping dodges it nicely.
Bisping wants to control but Naoki is keeping busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Naoki tries to clinch up but Bisping circles away and keeps his distance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bisping stuffs the takedown.

Naoki feints and as Bisping raises his hands in defense, Naoki changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bisping looking to hit a scissor sweep but Naoki is one step ahead there.
Naoki trying to control but Bisping is working from the bottom.
Bisping controls Naoki momentarily but Naoki frees himself.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Naoki accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Naoki in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Naoki has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Naoki passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Naoki is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Bisping knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Bisping is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A head kick by Bisping misses

and Naoki counters with a single leg into guard. Bisping didn't expect that.

Naoki has gone for a leg lock! Bisping slips out almost immediately though and dives into Naoki's guard.

Bisping throws a strike but Naoki rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Bisping not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bisping misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Naoki darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Naoki is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Naoki shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bisping as he avoids it easily.
Bisping tries to clinch but Naoki moves out of range.

and Naoki counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Naoki wants to work for an arm triangle but Bisping is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Naoki is working for a kimura but Bisping is defending it quite comfortably.

Naoki stalling away here and it's allowed Bisping to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Bisping is trying to control the position but Naoki postures up.
Naoki stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bisping swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Naoki drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Naoki jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Naoki is looking to work some ground and pound but Bisping has wrist control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Bisping misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Bisping wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Bisping lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Bisping throws a head kick but Naoki moves out of range.
Bisping moves in looking to clinch but Naoki pushes him off.
Bisping gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Naoki decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Bisping's guard.
Naoki slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Naoki lands a couple of elbows.

Naoki drops back looking for a leg! Bisping is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Bisping manages to kick Naoki off! Naoki jumps back into Bisping's guard.
Bisping is trying to keep Naoki in close.

Bisping is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Naoki is controlling him.
Naoki thows a big elbow that misses.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Naoki fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Bisping misses with a wild body shot.

Naoki closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Bisping quickly recovers to half guard.

Naoki seems to be looking for submissions.
Naoki not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Bisping trying to control but Naoki postures up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Naoki is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Bisping doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Naoki.

The fighters are battling for position here. Bisping manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Naoki stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bisping swivels though and keeps the full guard.

so Bisping counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Naoki looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Naoki is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Naoki wants to stand up but Bisping is controlling him.

Naoki escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bisping gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Bisping must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Bisping stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Naoki swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Takumi Naoki overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Bisping wants to control but Naoki is keeping him busy.
Naoki is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Bisping asserts his dominance and retains side control.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Bisping wants to lay and pray for a moment but Naoki keeps working.
Naoki is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Bisping has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Naoki tries to buck Bisping off but Bisping is having none of it.
Naoki tries to strike from the bottom but misses.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Bisping throws a leg kick

and Naoki counters with a shoot takedown. Bisping fights it but they end up in guard.

Michael Bisping has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Naoki is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Bisping is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Takumi Naoki.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Naoki, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
