PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mitchell Joseph (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Freddy Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lee has chosen Everythings in it's right place as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mitchell Joseph!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Freddy Lee!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joseph stuffs the takedown attempt from Lee. Lee gets slowly back to his feet.
Lee changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Joseph tries to avoid it but Lee manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Joseph to the ground. Joseph escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Lee gets the takedown into side control.
Lee throws a strike aimed at the side of Joseph's head but Joseph avoids it well.

Lee is trying to get an arm triangle but Joseph is defending well.
Joseph is looking to regain half guard here but Lee keeps moving and retains side control.

Lee tries for a kimura but Joseph is defending well.
The ground and pound from Lee seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Joseph holds on to Lee's head and controls the position momentarily.

Lee is trying to get an arm triangle but Joseph is defending well.

Lee working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Joseph tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Sloppy strikes there by Lee.

Lee goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Joseph rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Lee's guard! Nice work there by Joseph!

Lee is trying to control the position but Joseph postures up.
Joseph won't allow Lee to sweep him here.
Lee is trying to keep Joseph in close.
Lee wants to sweep but no luck.
Joseph trying to stand up but can't free himself from Lee's guard.
Lee manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Joseph manages to get himself to full guard.

Joseph is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Lee drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Lee jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Lee has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Joseph can't keep his opponent in guard - Lee advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Lee looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Joseph wants to get back to his feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Lee uses his free foot to push down on Joseph's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Joseph.
Lee throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.

Lee has hold of Joseph's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Joseph manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Joseph is looking to get to half guard.
Joseph regains half guard.
Lee wants to pass the guard but Joseph is defending well.

Lee is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Freddy Lee dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Lee misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Joseph defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Lee.
Lee tests Joseph's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Joseph keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Joseph parries the strikes from Lee easily there. Lee is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Joseph to escape.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Lee advances to mount.
Lee punching from mount but Joseph doing a good job of avoiding damage.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Joseph is desperately trying to improve his position but Lee has a good base and remains in mount.

Lee moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Joseph has worked his arm free - good work by Joseph!
Lee tries to score with some ground and pound. Joseph controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Lee tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Lee fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Lee tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Joseph avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Lee.
Joseph is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.
Lee lands a decent elbow from side control.
Lee in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Lee wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Joseph, who protects the arm well.
Joseph pushes Lee away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Lee gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Lee swings around for an armbar but Joseph sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Lee's guard.

Lee controls Joseph momentarily but Joseph frees himself.

Lee has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Joseph can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Lee bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Joseph's guard.

Freddy Lee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Joseph takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Joseph lands with a nice body kick.
Lee tries for a takedown but Joseph sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Joseph ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Lee moves away.
Joseph throws a sloppy head kick and Lee moves out of range easily.

and Joseph counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Joseph looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Joseph thows a huge punch but Lee dodges it nicely.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Lee is looking for a sweep. Joseph is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Joseph trying to control from half guard but Lee is working away.
Lee is trying to control but can't.

Lee might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Joseph kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Lee works his way to full guard. Good work.
Joseph is looking to stand up but Lee won't let him.

Lee throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Joseph escapes and throws Lee's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Lee gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Freddy Lee is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lee desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Lee gets back to full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lee is on top in guard.
Lee wants to control from the top but Joseph keeps moving.
Lee is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Lee has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Freddy Lee.
Joseph tries a head kick but it misses.
Lee lands with a nice body punch.
Joseph has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Joseph there as he acknowledges the shot.
Lee ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Lee scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Joseph misses with a low kick.
Joseph closes this distance looking for a takedown but Lee circles away.
Lee lands a nice shot to the body.
Lee scores with a sloppy right hand. Joseph should have avoided that one.
Mitchell Joseph has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Freddy Lee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Lee darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Joseph drops his hands momentarily and Lee takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Joseph keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mitchell Joseph.
Well Lee has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
