Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Greek Gyros (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay West (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gyros's entrance music is Greek Gyros. A fine choice. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Greek Gyros!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jay West!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

West gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Gyros to score an easy takedown into full guard.
West is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Gyros stays in close to West's body and controls the position.
Gyros won't allow West to get back to his feet.
Gyros trying to control the position from guard on top but West is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
West is looking to stand up but Gyros isn't so interested in that idea.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Greek Gyros wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Gyros has a takedown stuffed.
Gyros shoots in but West avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Gyros shoots in and gets a takedown into West's guard.
Gyros postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
West wants to stand but Gyros is controlling the position.
Gyros trying to control the position from guard on top but West is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
West wants to get back to his feet but Gyros is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if West can do anything to dispel that myth.
Gyros controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Greek Gyros wasn't doing enough on the ground.
West shoots for a double leg takedown but Gyros sprawls well. He's pushed West's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
West blocks a leg kick.

Gyros feints and as West raises his hands in defense, Gyros changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Gyros advances position into side control!
West dodges the ground and pound from Gyros.
Gyros happy to just control the position for now.
Gyros seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down West for as long as he can get away with.

West is trying to get back to his feet.
Gyros wants to control but West is keeping him busy.
West is trying to escape the position but Gyros is controlling the position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Greek Gyros wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Gyros fails with the takedown

and West counters with a nice double leg into guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Greek Gyros. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gyros wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
West trying to control but Gyros is working from the bottom.
Gyros looking to control.
Gyros wants to stand and escape but West is having none of it.
Gyros is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We're going to have a standup here because Greek Gyros wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

A momentary lapse in concentration from West enables Gyros to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. West manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gyros won't allow West to get back to his feet.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Greek Gyros.

Gyros closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. West quickly recovers to half guard.

West is trying to stand up here but Gyros is controlling him well.
West is staying active underneath Gyros, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Gyros is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because West is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Gyros throws a strike but West avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
West is looking to stand up but Gyros isn't so interested in that idea.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
West looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Gyros gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and West cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.


It looks like Greek Gyros has been cut.
West slips a straight right by Gyros.
West misses with a double jab.
Gyros throws a big shot that misses.

West shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Gyros can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as West controls the pace.
West passes Gyros's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Gyros tries to get to full guard but West has control of the leg.
West moves nicely into side control.
West tries to score with some ground and pound. Gyros controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Gyros is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, West asserts his dominance and retains side control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gyros can't do much from the bottom here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay West showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Greek Gyros's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

and West counters with a nice low kick that buckles Gyros's knee momentarily.

West closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - West lands in his opponent's guard.
West stays in close to Gyros's body and controls the position.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Still in half guard, West seems content to control.

West tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
West wants to control the pace but Gyros is squirming around nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
West is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Gyros is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
West tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jay West was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Gyros has his takedown stuffed
and West counters with a nice kick to the body.
Greek Gyros seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

West shoots in and bounces Gyros off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
West's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Gyros is trying to keep West in close.
West throws a big right hand that misses.

Gyros has his foot on West's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. West works his way back into a safe position though.

West thows a huge punch but Gyros dodges it nicely.
West passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Gyros!

Jay West comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well West has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
