Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 5 - 1, fighting out of London, Boris Cekada! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 4 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Stefan Pozsgai! The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Colin Fotheringham and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice shot lands for Pozsgai. Pozsgai moves in looking to clinch but Cekada pushes him off. Pozsgai stuffs the takedown attempt from Cekada. Cekada gets slowly back to his feet. Pozsgai looks to land a right hand but Cekada moved out of range. Cekada closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Pozsgai quickly recovers to half guard. Cekada not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Pozsgai is refusing to be controlled, as Cekada sits in half guard. Cekada is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Pozsgai actively working from the bottom here. Pozsgai looking for submissions off his back. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Cekada lands a nice short elbow.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cekada not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Cekada thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pozsgai's head. Cekada has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Cekada looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Pozsgai gets back to full guard.
Cekada stopping the sweep attempt from Pozsgai. Pozsgai keeping full guard, as Cekada tries to pass. Cekada postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Cekada preventing the sweep. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cekada is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pozsgai is on top in guard.
Pozsgai wants to pass the guard but Cekada is keeping the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cekada pulls Pozsgai in close to prevent any damage. Cekada trying to keep a closed guard but Pozsgai is proving a slippery customer.
Pozsgai stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Cekada has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Pozsgai manages to get his head free but now Cekada has transitioned to an armbar! Pozsgai grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Cekada! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!
