PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ronny Boy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Don Opas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boy comes to the cage accompanied by Everclear - The BOYs are back in town. Opas is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by AC/DC - Thunderstruck. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 2 - 3, fighting out of London, Ronny Boy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Don Opas!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, William Gold and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Boy closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Opas quickly recovers to half guard.
Opas avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Boy.

Boy is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Boy not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Opas gets full guard.
Boy looking to pass the guard.
Boy postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Boy throws a strike but Opas rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Opas content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Opas tries to free his leg and advance position but Boy is retaining full guard.
Boy lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Opas!
Poor strikes thrown by Boy there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Boy sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Opas holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Boy tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Opas wants to control but Boy is having none of it.
Boy has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Boy lands a big elbow.
BOOM! Boy connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Boy misses with a head shot.

Boy is working for a guillotine from mount but Opas frees his head quite easily.
Opas holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Boy tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Boy lands with some strikes.
Opas taking shots to the head.
Opas is trying to escape the mount.
Opas avoids a series of strikes thrown by Boy.
Opas is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Opas wants to hold on but Boy pushes him away.

Boy jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Opas is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Opas and Boy has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Boy working the strikes but Opas uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Boy is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Boy throws some wild stikes that Opas manages to avoid easily.
Boy throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Opas because Boy loaded up on that one.

Boy goes for an armbar but Opas turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Opas.
Opas stopping the sweep attempt from Boy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ronny Boy dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Opas throws the kick towards the body but Boy avoids it.
Boy shoots in for a takedown but Opas shows good takedown defense.
Boy circles away from the clinch attempt.
Opas throws a right and a left that both miss.

Boy shoots in and bounces Opas off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Boy pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Opas is keeping the position for now.
Boy throwing strikes but missing.

Boy tries to free his leg and advance position but Opas is retaining full guard.
Boy postures up in Opas's guard and throws a big left but Opas blocks it.
Opas working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Boy.
Opas seems keen to control Boy's posture.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Opas can do anything to dispel that myth.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Opas is on top in guard.
Boy looking to hit a scissor sweep but Opas is one step ahead there.
Boy keeping moving, preventing Opas from controlling successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ronny Boy overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Boy keeping full guard, as Opas tries to pass.

Boy is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Boy seems keen to control Opas's posture.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Boy wants to sweep here but Opas controlling him for the moment.
Boy can't keep his opponent in guard - Opas advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Opas working the head and body with strikes.
Opas tries to stand but can't do so whilst Boy controls his leg.
Boy wants to get back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Boy gets full guard.
Opas trying to control but Boy is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boy is trying to control the position but Opas postures up.
Boy tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Boy is on top in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ronny Boy will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Opas ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Boy moves away.
Opas throws a nice inside leg kick.
Opas throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Boy shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Opas but Opas pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Boy takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Opas is looking to chop away at Boy's legs.
Don Opas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Opas fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Boy.
Good shot there by Opas.
Opas scores with a nice head shot.
Opas tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Boy circles away from the clinch attempt.
Opas misses with a hook. Boy ducked under it nicely.
Opas scores with a jab to the jaw.
Opas bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Boy's head backwards.
Opas tries a head kick but it misses.
Opas fails with an attempt to clinch.
Opas scoring well with a low kick there.
Opas throws out a leg kick but Boy moves out of range and Opas only half commits.
Boy shoots in but Opas avoids the takedown attempt easily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Boy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ronny Boy. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Boy ducks under a wild hook from Opas.
A telegraphed right hand from Opas misses the target.
Opas missing with a left hand there. Boy was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Opas.

Boy decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Don Opas has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Boy misses with a head shot. Opas uses the momentum to regain guard.
Boy postures up in Opas's guard and throws a big left but Opas blocks it.
Boy postures up.

Boy trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boy throwing strikes but missing.
Opas keeping moving, preventing Boy from controlling successfully.
Opas preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Boy landing with the ground and pound.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Opas is on top in guard.
Ronny Boy is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Opas drops back looking for a leg! Boy is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Boy manages to kick Opas off! Opas jumps back into Boy's guard.

Don Opas comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Boy has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
