PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pepper Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cyrus DusK jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cyrus DusK jr!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Stewart Dunkirk and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones shoots in and gets a takedown into DusK jr's guard.
Jones trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Jones throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as DusK jr works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
DusK jr is trying to keep Jones in close.
Jones works over DusK jr with some ground and pound from guard.
Jones looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. DusK jr swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jones accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Jones drops back looking for a leg! DusK jr is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and DusK jr manages to kick Jones off! Jones jumps back into DusK jr's guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Jones keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Jones closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming DusK jr to the mat! DusK jr manages to get full guard.
Jones sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed DusK jr's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

DusK jr wants to get back to his feet.
Jones perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
DusK jr really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jones really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Jones is taking a breather. DusK jr says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Jones looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Jones is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Jones is breathing heavily.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Jones defends well against a solid takedown attempt from DusK jr.
DusK jr keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
DusK jr rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jones moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Jones throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around DusK jr's waist but DusK jr gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jones off to one side.
DusK jr lands with a thumping leg kick.
A jab from DusK jr finds it's way through Jones's defenses.
DusK jr tries a head kick but it misses.
Nice takedown defense from DusK jr. No joy for Jones on that attempt.

DusK jr escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
DusK jr tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jones swats him away and circles back towards the center.
DusK jr moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

DusK jr pivots, looking for a leg kick but Jones is out of range and DusK jr settles back down.

Jones will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Jones is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Jones lands with a punch from half guard.
Jones thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed DusK jr's head.
DusK jr looks like he's trying to stand up.
Jones looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Jones decides to return to a standing position.

Jones is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Jones turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Jones manages to end up in side control.
Jones tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Jones has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Jones stands up and we're back to a striking position.
A nice inside leg kick there by DusK jr. That's going to slow Jones down.

DusK jr is looking to stand up but Jones isn't so interested in that idea.

Jones decides to take the fight back to the feet.
DusK jr thuds his right hand into Jones's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
DusK jr moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Jones looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

DusK jr throws an overhand right that lands on Jones's shoulder, as Jones tries to avoid the shot.
DusK jr scores with a jab. Jones acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
DusK jr misses with a few strikes there.
DusK jr looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Jones rushes DusK jr and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Jones keeps the fight in the clinch, despite DusK jr's efforts to push away.
Jones tries to circle away but DusK jr has him pinned against the cage.
DusK jr has had enough of the clinch but Jones keeps him there for the moment.
Jones wants a takedown.

A head punch on the inside from DusK jr fails to land.
Jones has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. DusK jr is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Jones lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Jones drops to a knee looking for a takedown but DusK jr gets the underhooks and prevents it.

DusK jr turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Jones shoots in and gets a takedown into DusK jr's guard.
Jones won't allow DusK jr to sweep him here.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jones, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
