The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paul shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Asher's guard. Paul is looking to work some ground and pound but Asher has wrist control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Paul is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Paul content to stall in guard here. Asher is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Paul is controlling him. Paul trying to control but Asher is working from the bottom. Paul drops back, looking for a kneebar! Asher looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Asher looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Asher! You can see the frustration on Paul's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Asher wants to stand but Paul is controlling his arm.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Paul has one of Asher's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage. Paul is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Asher's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Paul is trying is best to control the position here. Paul kicks Asher off and gets back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Asher lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Asher. Asher jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Whack! Asher lands a heavy head kick that drops Paul. The ref tackles Asher to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Paul was done.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:12 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Asher Asher!
