Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Norman Bates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Perkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bates comes to the cage accompanied by Hmmm... Interesting.... Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Norman Bates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brandon Perkins!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Alec Ball and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slow jab from Perkins misses its intended target.
Bates lands with a nice combination. Perkins backs away looking to recover.
Bates keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Bates uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Perkins.
Bates shoots in for a takedown but Perkins shows good takedown defense.
Bates scores with a jab. Perkins acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Norman Bates seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bates lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Perkins leaves Bates with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Perkins pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Bates connects with a crisp jab.
Bates uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Perkins.
Perkins waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Bates.

Bates's corner calls for a 1-2. Bates obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Perkins moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Perkins throws a body punch but Bates moves out of range.
A looping hook to the body misses from Perkins. Bates does a little dance to reset his feet.
Perkins is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Bates rather than just go for the knockout.

Bates gets the takedown into side control.
Bates tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Perkins avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Bates.
Bates landing a few strikes.
Bates postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bates in side control, just content to control the action for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bates's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Bates is looking to take a break and control but Perkins is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Bates connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Perkins some visible discomfort.

Bates tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Bates wants to control but Perkins is keeping him busy.
Bates looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Perkins is avoiding damage well.

Bates throws an elbow but Perkins slips to the side and avoids it well.

Bates is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Perkins's shoulder. That is not cool.

Perkins taking punishment in the form of punches.
Perkins really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bates. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Bates sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Perkins is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Perkins can do anything to dispel that myth.

Bates has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Perkins is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Bates yanks on the arm and Perkins is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Bates.
