PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Anus Saukko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jayson Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Saukko is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Anus Saukko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jayson Rodriguez!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rodriguez closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Saukko did well to prevent Rodriguez getting side control.
Saukko looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Saukko on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Saukko tries to get out of the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Rodriguez shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Saukko's guard.
Saukko really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Rodriguez has Saukko pressed against the cage, preventing Saukko from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Saukko tries to circle away but Rodriguez has him pinned against the cage.
Saukko is trying to break free.

Rodriguez has picked Saukko up - he's going for a ride! Rodriguez dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Rodriguez is looking for a kimura but Saukko is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Rodriguez to get the leverage.
Rodriguez stops Saukko from getting back to his feet.

Rodriguez postures up and lands a big shot to Saukko's brow.
Rodriguez stands and throws Saukko's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Saukko parries the strikes from Rodriguez easily there. Rodriguez is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Saukko to escape.
Rodriguez throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Rodriguez tries to clinch there but Saukko circles away.

Rodriguez closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Rodriguez not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Rodriguez thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Saukko's head.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rodriguez connects with a nice short shot to Saukko's temple.

Saukko stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Saukko wants it to stay on the feet.

Rodriguez gets the takedown into side control.
Rodriguez creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Saukko sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Rodriguez landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Rodriguez is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Rodriguez thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Saukko's head.
Rodriguez looks to land a strike but Saukko avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Rodriguez works over Saukko with some ground and pound from guard.

Rodriguez working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Saukko's head.
Saukko will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Rodriguez throws a strike but Saukko rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Rodriguez is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Saukko is aware though and is defending well.
Rodriguez thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Rodriguez throws his legs up looking for a submission but Saukko uses it to pass to side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rodriguez tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Saukko wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Saukko has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Rodriguez shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Saukko is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Rodriguez scores with a couple of nice shots.

Rodriguez is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jayson Rodriguez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Rodriguez closes the distance and pushes Saukko back into the cage.

Saukko is fighting off a takedown attempt but Rodriguez is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Saukko to the mat. Saukko regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Saukko is looking to stand up but Rodriguez isn't so interested in that idea.

Rodriguez with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Rodriguez throws a strike but Saukko rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Rodriguez has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Saukko is working away from the top position though.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Rodriguez wants to control but Saukko passes easily into half guard.
Saukko tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Rodriguez.
Rodriguez tries to roll over but Saukko keeps him under control.
Rodriguez missing with punches from the bottom.

Rodriguez is trying to control but Saukko manages to pass to mount!
Saukko avoids the attempt from Rodriguez to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Rodriguez wants to control but Saukko is having none of it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rodriguez is trying desperately to improve position.

I've got Rodriguez winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
