PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gastly Gengar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kiyah Matsumoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gengar comes to the cage accompanied by Major Lazer - Pon De Floor . These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gastly Gengar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kiyah Matsumoto!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Emerson Jorge and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Matsumoto closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Gengar quickly recovers to half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Matsumoto throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Gengar keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Gengar regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Matsumoto.

Matsumoto is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Gengar has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Gengar!

Matsumoto takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Matsumoto stalling away here and it's allowed Gengar to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Gengar connects with a single shot there.
Gengar stuffs the takedown attempt from Matsumoto. Matsumoto gets slowly back to his feet.

Gengar has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Matsumoto clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Gengar throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
Gengar is trying to stick to Matsumoto's back but Matsumoto is turning into Gengar. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Gengar's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Matsumoto.
Gengar is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Matsumoto moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Gengar tries to bum rush Matsumoto with a series of wild strikes but Matsumoto uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Matsumoto throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Matsumoto moves in looking to clinch but Gengar pushes him off.
Matsumoto has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Gengar finds it's way round the side to connect with Matsumoto's head.
Gengar misses the jab.
Gengar throws a hook but Matsumoto blocks it.
Matsumoto shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Gengar defends it nicely.
Matsumoto takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Gastly Gengar is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Matsumoto tries to clinch there but Gengar circles away.
Matsumoto fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Gastly Gengar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kiyah Matsumoto.
Gengar throws a hook to the side of Matsumoto's head but Matsumoto sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Matsumoto closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

and Gengar counters with a thumping low kick.
A chopping leg kick lands by Gengar.

and Gengar counters with a two punch combo.
Matsumoto tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Gengar tries to land a front kick but Matsumoto steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Gastly Gengar has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Matsumoto is looking to clinch but Gengar is avoiding it.
Gengar leaves Matsumoto with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Matsumoto takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Gengar dips to his left and cracks Matsumoto with an uppercut!
Gengar scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Gengar lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Gengar with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

and Gengar counters with a stiff right hand.

Gengar throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Matsumoto walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Matsumoto is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Gengar rather than just go for the knockout.
Gengar fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.

Matsumoto bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Gengar cracks a nice hook into Matsumoto's ribs.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

I think Matsumoto has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
