Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rod Duarte!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Manolo do Jiu Jitsu!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Luis Engracia and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
do Jiu Jitsu circles away from the clinch attempt.

do Jiu Jitsu gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Duarte to score an easy takedown into full guard.

do Jiu Jitsu has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Duarte can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
do Jiu Jitsu is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Duarte tries to get to full guard but do Jiu Jitsu has control of the leg.
Duarte is trying to stand up here but do Jiu Jitsu is controlling him well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Duarte wants to improve his position but do Jiu Jitsu is controlling well.

do Jiu Jitsu thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Duarte's head.
Duarte is looking to improve his position.
do Jiu Jitsu wants to control but Duarte is keeping him busy.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
do Jiu Jitsu tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Duarte swivels and escapes.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Duarte stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Duarte wants it to stay on the feet.
do Jiu Jitsu shoots in but Duarte avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Rod Duarte has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Manolo do Jiu Jitsu.

and Duarte counters with a big head kick but do Jiu Jitsu shrugs it off.

Duarte shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in do Jiu Jitsu's guard.
do Jiu Jitsu tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Duarte pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. do Jiu Jitsu is keeping the position for now.

Duarte decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on do Jiu Jitsu, up you get!

Duarte has taken the fight to the clinch.

Duarte breaks the clinch.

Duarte shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches do Jiu Jitsu napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Duarte has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Duarte moves into range and clinches up with do Jiu Jitsu.

Duarte drives through with a takedown into guard.
do Jiu Jitsu controls Duarte momentarily but Duarte frees himself.
Duarte stays in close to do Jiu Jitsu's body and controls the position.
Duarte wants to stand but do Jiu Jitsu is controlling his posture from full guard.

Duarte postures up.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Duarte throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Duarte fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. do Jiu Jitsu looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
do Jiu Jitsu misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Duarte.

Duarte clinches up against the cage.

Duarte gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Duarte tries to free his leg and advance position but do Jiu Jitsu is retaining full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rod Duarte dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Duarte circles away from the clinch attempt
and Duarte counters with a thumping low kick.
do Jiu Jitsu throws a low kick but Duarte avoids it.

Duarte looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Duarte is figuring out what he wants to do next.
do Jiu Jitsu trying to control but Duarte postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Duarte connects with a nice short shot to do Jiu Jitsu's temple.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

do Jiu Jitsu tries to kick Duarte off but Duarte keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Duarte is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
do Jiu Jitsu wants to control but Duarte is keeping busy.
Duarte lands with a punch from half guard.
Duarte is figuring out what he wants to do next.
It looks like Duarte is going to stand back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Duarte seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

We're going to have a standup here because Rod Duarte wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Duarte throws a head kick that do Jiu Jitsu semi-blocks.

Duarte decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Duarte moves into full mount! do Jiu Jitsu won't be happy about that!

Duarte takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
do Jiu Jitsu is looking to improve his position but Duarte isn't that keen on the idea.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
do Jiu Jitsu is in a horrible position here. Duarte smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
do Jiu Jitsu tries to reverse the position but Duarte maintains control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Duarte closes the distance and clinches.
Duarte lands a nice knee to the body.

Duarte prevents do Jiu Jitsu from breaking the clinch.

Duarte content to slow the pace in the clinch.
do Jiu Jitsu drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Duarte gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Duarte breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Duarte has control of do Jiu Jitsu's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and do Jiu Jitsu regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Duarte tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

do Jiu Jitsu is looking to improve his position but Duarte isn't that keen on the idea.

Rod Duarte overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
