Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ryan Jackson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dan OBrien! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jackson closes the distance and clinches. Jackson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Jackson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. OBrien quickly recovers to half guard. Jackson sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. OBrien defending well though. Jackson keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. OBrien is trying to stand.
OBrien looks gassed! Jackson not doing much here.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. OBrien tries to kick Jackson off in order to stand up. Jackson Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control. Jackson taking a breather here. OBrien parries the strikes from Jackson easily there. Jackson is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable OBrien to escape.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jackson throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Jackson takes a little break here. OBrien wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Jackson throwing shots but missing, from side control. Jackson remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
We're going to have a standup here because Ryan Jackson wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. OBrien tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Jackson counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in OBrien's guard now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. OBrien wants to get back to his feet but Jackson is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Jackson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as OBrien works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Jackson stands and steps away. OBrien gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Jackson scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Jackson in side control, just content to control the action for now. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jackson has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. OBrien misses with a few strikes there.
Jackson is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in OBrien's half guard. Jackson looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. OBrien avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Jackson. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Jackson in particular looking to stall. Jackson escapes and gets back to his feet. OBrien avoids the head kick by Jackson.
That's four minutes gone in the round. OBrien checks a leg kick. Jackson attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. OBrien throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Jackson. Jackson closes the distance and pushes OBrien back into the cage. OBrien is trying to stall.
Jackson pulls guard effortlessly. Jackson looking to hit a scissor sweep but OBrien is one step ahead there. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Jackson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. OBrien manages to get himself to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ryan Jackson dominated that round. That's time! Jackson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Jackson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Ryan Jackson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Jackson sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Jackson goes for an armbar but OBrien turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from OBrien. OBrien wants to stand but Jackson has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Jackson manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
OBrien is breathing heavily. Jackson lands with some vicious ground and pound - can OBrien hang on?
That's one minute gone in the round. OBrien is trying to get back to his feet but can't. Jackson controlling the position easily from mount. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Jackson cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Jackson looking to control and managing it successfully. Jackson looking to ground and pound but OBrien is blocking nicely. Jackson moves to the back. Jackson is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged OBrien with him. OBrien is trying to defend but Jackson has an arm under the chin now! OBrien grimaces and is forced to tap out!
