PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between King Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Royce Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Faint - Linkin Park. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, King Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Royce Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Dillan Fox and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jackson gets a takedown into half guard.
Jackson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Gracie is trying to control but can't.
Gracie might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jackson kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The fighters are battling for position here. Gracie manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Gracie keeping moving, preventing Jackson from controlling successfully.
Jackson is fighting to break Gracie's control of his arms but Gracie is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Jackson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Jackson tries to free his leg and advance position but Gracie is retaining full guard.

Gracie is trying to control the position but Jackson postures up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Gracie gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Jackson counters with a shoot takedown. Gracie fights it but they end up in guard.
Gracie wants to sweep but no luck.
Jackson keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Gracie's head.
Gracie is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Gracie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jackson postures up in Gracie's guard and throws a big left but Gracie blocks it.

Jackson wants to stand but Gracie is controlling his posture from full guard.
Jackson trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Gracie wants to get back to his feet but Jackson is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Jackson is really struggling to control Gracie but he's trying to hold on to the position.

We're going to have a standup here because King Jackson wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Gracie darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Gracie looks gassed!
Jackson wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy.
Jackson is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Gracie jumps into side control!

Jackson is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Jackson on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Jackson tries to get out of the position.
Jackson is looking to reverse the position.
Jackson is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jackson tries to get to full guard but Gracie has control of the leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jackson is trying to stand back up but Gracie is controlling him
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

King Jackson dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Jackson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Gracie tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Jackson is in Gracie's guard.
Jackson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gracie swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gracie is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Jackson connects with a couple of short punches.
Jackson stopping the sweep attempt from Gracie.
Jackson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gracie swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gracie is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gracie working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Jackson.
Jackson wants to control from the top but Gracie keeps moving.
Jackson looking to pass the guard.

Gracie is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Jackson stands and steps away. Gracie gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Gracie feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Jackson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gracie is aware though and is defending well.

King Jackson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Jackson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gracie on the ground.

Jackson has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Jackson instigates a clinch.
Jackson prevents a takedown attempt there.
A frustrated look appears on Jackson's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Jackson tries to break free but Gracie pushes him back against the cage.
Gracie keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Jackson's efforts to push away.
Jackson tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Gracie gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Jackson pulls Gracie in close to prevent any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gracie won't allow Jackson to sweep him here.
Jackson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Gracie is controlling him.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Jackson looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Jackson with a couple of shots from the bottom there - nothing Gracie can't handle though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Royce Gracie will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Jackson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Gracie quickly recovers to half guard.

Jackson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Gracie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Gracie wants to control but Jackson is keeping him busy.

Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Jackson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jackson is trying to get back to full guard.
Gracie is keen to just control but Jackson is a slippery customer.
Gracie with the ground and pound but Jackson uses the opportunity to regain guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gracie postures up in Jackson's guard and throws a big left but Jackson blocks it.
Jackson has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Jackson tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Jackson is trying to control the position but Gracie postures up.
Gracie is fighting to break Jackson's control of his arms but Jackson is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Gracie won't allow Jackson to sweep him here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Royce Gracie comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Gracie has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
