PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Setsuko Sasaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Clyde Turner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Turner's choice of entrance music: I'd Love To Knock The Hell Out Of You. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Setsuko Sasaki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Clyde Turner!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Anni Minnemäki and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sasaki shoots in but Turner avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Sasaki shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Turner looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Sasaki has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Sasaki tries to control but Turner wriggling away.
Turner bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Turner must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Sasaki looking to hit a scissor sweep but Turner is one step ahead there.

Sasaki is looking for a triangle but Turner pushes his legs off easily.
Turner seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Clyde Turner hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
The fighters circle momentarily. Turner darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.


It looks like Setsuko Sasaki has been cut.
Sasaki could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sasaki looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Sasaki prevents Turner from improving his position.
Turner pushes Sasaki off looking to stand but Sasaki dives back in and keeps control.

Sasaki is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Sasaki seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Turner does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Turner is pressing down on Sasaki's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Turner has his foot on Sasaki's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sasaki works his way back into a safe position though.
Sasaki is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Turner escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sasaki gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sasaki wants to control from the top but Turner keeps moving.

Turner kicks Sasaki off and gets to his feet.
Sasaki slips a jab from Turner.
Nice defenses there by Sasaki.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sasaki dives in and grabs Turner's left leg, looking for a takedown. Turner pushes down on Sasaki's head and hops out.
Turner defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Sasaki.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Setsuko Sasaki. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sasaki is breathing heavily.
Sasaki slips a straight right by Turner.

Sasaki drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Turner is pushing Sasaki's head away, looking to escape. Sasaki manages to hold on to the position though.

Sasaki is trying to get an arm triangle but Turner is defending well.
Sasaki trying to control the action but Turner is working from the bottom.
Turner sneaks back into half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Turner manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Turner is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Turner has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sasaki can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Turner keeping moving, preventing Sasaki from controlling successfully.

Turner is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sasaki defends well.

Sasaki drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sasaki jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Turner looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Turner is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sasaki defends well.

Turner scrambles and gets back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Clyde Turner dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Setsuko Sasaki's cut.
That's time! Sasaki's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Turner missing with a left hand there. Sasaki was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Sasaki shoots for a takedown but Turner saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Sasaki takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Horrible takedown by Sasaki or perhaps it was just good defense by Turner which made him look bad.
Turner swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Turner throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Sasaki on the side of the head.
Turner looks to land a left hand but Sasaki moved out of range nicely.

Turner tries to clinch up.
Sasaki misses with a double jab.
Turner waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Sasaki.

A big right from Turner misses.
Turner might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Sasaki fails with the takedown.

Turner lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Clyde Turner is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Turner lunges in with a left hook that violently twists Sasaki head around and knocks him out cold! Turner hops onto the cage and yells out at the top of his lungs - Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaah! They're showing the replay on the big screens now; that was nasty! I hope one of the photographers got a good shot of it.
