Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Byrd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Danny Knighton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Knighton has chosen Move by Thousand Foot Krutch as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ricky Byrd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Danny Knighton!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Chad Campbell and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Knighton drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Knighton swings around for an armbar but Byrd sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Knighton's guard.
Knighton utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Byrd trying to control but Knighton is working from the bottom.
Byrd is really struggling to control Knighton but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Knighton keeping moving, preventing Byrd from controlling successfully.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

We're going to have a standup here because Ricky Byrd wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Byrd throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Byrd throws a nice looking combination but Knighton bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Byrd rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Knighton moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Knighton avoids a punch combination nicely.
Byrd tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Knighton was well out of range. Poor timing from Byrd.
Byrd lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Byrd lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Knighton circles away quickly and effectively.

Knighton shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Knighton showed some decent athleticism there.
Byrd is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Knighton's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Knighton's back!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Knighton drops back, looking for a kneebar! Byrd looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Byrd looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Byrd!

Knighton shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Byrd is looking to control Knighton's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Byrd avoid being mounted?

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Byrd wants to lay and pray for a moment but Knighton keeps working.
Knighton seems a little lost for a moment, as Byrd dominates the positioning.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Ricky Byrd has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Byrd shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Knighton counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Byrd works his way to full guard. Good work.

Byrd is looking for a triangle but Knighton pushes his legs off easily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Knighton accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Danny Knighton showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Byrd is trying to maintain the position but Knighton is very close to passing his half guard.

Knighton takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Knighton won't allow Byrd to sweep him here.

Byrd is pulling down on Knighton's head to control his posture.

Knighton postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Byrd is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Knighton, into his guard.

Byrd drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Knighton dives on top into guard.

Knighton throwing strikes but missing.
Knighton throws and elbow that misses. Byrd uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Knighton's guard. Nice move by Byrd!

Byrd with a flurry of punches that miss.
Byrd trying to control the position from guard on top but Knighton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Byrd is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Knighton keeping full guard, as Byrd tries to pass.
Byrd not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

I would just about give that final round to Danny Knighton.
I think Knighton has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
