Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Wayne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nate Wright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Wayne! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nate Wright! The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Reed Andrews and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wayne blocks the body kick.
Wright fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Wayne avoids it really well and circles away. Wright goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Wright looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Wayne is fending him off so far but Wright persists. Nope, Wayne circles away and we're back to standing. Wright misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Wright tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Wayne manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Wayne keeps the fight on the outside. Wayne lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Wright misses the shot to the body. A head kick misses from Wright. Wright shoots in for a takedown but Wayne shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. John Wayne has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nate Wright. Wayne scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Wright fails with a takedown attempt. Wright shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wright blocks a jab. Wayne stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Wright shoots for a double leg takedown but Wayne sprawls well. He's pushed Wright's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Wayne lands a nice shot to the body.
Wayne sizes up Wright with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Wright misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Nice shot by Wayne. Wright gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Wayne to score an easy takedown into full guard. Wright is trying to control the position but Wayne postures up. Wright looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Wayne passes into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wayne controlling the action here. Wright is trying to control but can't.
Wayne is taking a breather. Wright says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Wayne prevents Wright from standing back up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wright looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Wayne in particular looking to stall. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wright wants to improve his position but Wayne is controlling well.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Wayne trying to control the pace.
The ref stands the fighters back up because John Wayne just wasn't active enough. Wright takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Wright throws a head kick but Wayne moves out of range.
Nate Wright seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Wright takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Wright walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Wright tries to clinch there but Wayne circles away.
Wright takes a shot right to the bread basket. Wayne punishes Wright's body with a nice straight punch. A left lands for Wayne. Wayne throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Wayne feints and as Wright raises his hands in defense, Wayne changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Wright throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Wayne engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
John Wayne dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Wright tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Wayne is able to avoid easily. Wright slips a jab from Wayne. Wright ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Wright throws a sloppy head kick and Wayne moves out of range easily. Wright has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Wayne finds it's way round the side to connect with Wright's head. Wayne throws a big shot that misses. Wayne lands a glancing blow to the side of Wright's head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wright misses with a double jab
enabling Wayne to counter with a crisp jab. Wayne connects with a nice looking jab.
Wright is looking to slow Wayne down with leg kicks. Wayne lands with a right hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wright closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Wayne to the mat! Wayne manages to get full guard. Wright postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Wayne is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Wright, into his guard. Wright is pulling down on Wayne's head. It's preventing any offense from Wayne, at least for the moment. Wayne trying to control but Wright is working from the bottom. Wright looking for a sweep. Not yet Wright, not yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wright is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Wright looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Wayne trying to control the position from guard on top but Wright is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Wright isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Wayne stacks Wright on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Wayne! Wayne avoids the strikes from the bottom by Wright. Wayne happy to just control the position for now. Wright wants to control but Wayne postures up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wright is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Wright is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Wright tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Wayne presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Wayne tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Wright working to try and regain half guard.
Wright tries to hold on but Wayne pushes him away. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Wright slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Wright is controlling Wayne's position as best he can from this difficult position. Wayne works his way into full mount! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
John Wayne dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Wayne shoots in and bounces Wright off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Wright bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wayne's guard. Wright is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Wayne is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Wayne has escaped and now he's on top! Wright working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wayne doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wayne manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wright wants to hit a switch here but Wayne passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Wright there! Wayne can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Wright is looking to escape. Wright tries to hold on but Wayne pushes him away. Wright is in all sorts of trouble here.
Nate Wright has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Wright sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Wayne prevents Wright from improving his position. Wright looking for submissions off his back. Wright takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Wright tries to roll over but Wayne keeps him under control. Wayne is controlling the pace.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wayne moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Wright. Wayne gets to mount! Wright was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. John Wayne overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Wright is trying to escape the mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Wayne is in the full mount, landing strikes. Wayne controlling the position easily from mount. Wayne prevents Wright from getting the reversal. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Wayne content just to control the position here. Wright flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
And that's the end of the fight! John Wayne showed his dominance in that final round. Well Wayne has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
