Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steven Mooney! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Roberto Martinez! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Frank Dennis and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Martinez throws a right hand that Mooney ducks under and follows up with a left that Mooney also avoids with ease. Mooney decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Mooney seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Martinez does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Martinez keeps control of the position for the meantime. It looks like Mooney is going to stand back up.
Martinez is pressing down on Mooney's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Mooney wants to control from the top but Martinez keeps moving. Martinez pulls Mooney in close to prevent any damage. Martinez wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Mooney manages to pass to side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mooney is looking to stall here but Martinez recovers full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mooney wants to stand and escape but instead Martinez has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Martinez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Mooney looking for a sweep. Not yet Mooney, not yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Mooney is working hard here to advance position. Martinez postures up.
Martinez drops back looking for a leg! Mooney is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mooney manages to kick Martinez off! Martinez jumps back into Mooney's guard. Martinez looking to pass the guard. Mooney wants to sweep but no luck.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mooney has his foot on Martinez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Martinez works his way back into a safe position though. Mooney is looking to stand up but Martinez isn't so interested in that idea. Mooney is breathing heavily. Martinez seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Martinez connects with a couple of short punches. Martinez controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Martinez stands and throws Mooney's legs to the side, diving into side control. You can see the frustration on Mooney's face as Martinez controls the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mooney is looking for a sweep. Martinez goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Mooney rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Martinez's guard! Nice work there by Mooney! Martinez working for a triangle but Mooney defends it easily.
Mooney wants to control from the top but Martinez keeps moving. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martinez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Martinez trying to pass the guard but Mooney defending well. Mooney is looking to escape. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Martinez decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Martinez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mooney looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mooney is trying to work for a sweep but Martinez has mounted him! Martinez sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Mooney tries to improve his position but instead Martinez has taken his back! Martinez is riding his opponent, not letting Mooney buck him off. Martinez's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Martinez working for the choke.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Martinez tightening his grip on Mooney, looking for the choke. Martinez throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch. Mooney is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Martinez gets his way!

That's three minutes gone in the round. Mooney covering up well under a series of strikes from Martinez. Martinez has the hooks in. Mooney is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Mooney wants to get back to his feet. Martinez is working the ground and pound. Can Mooney escape? Martinez not allowing Mooney to control his hands.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Martinez is working hard for the rear naked choke here.

Martinez scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Mooney is looking for a way out. Martinez has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Mooney. Martinez has the hooks in. Mooney is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martinez clinches up with Mooney and pushes him back against the cage. Martinez manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Mooney wants to stand and escape but instead Martinez has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Mooney striking off his back but it's not causing Martinez any problems. Mooney wants to control the position but Martinez says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Mooney might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Martinez gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Mooney dodges the punch combination from Martinez.
Martinez drives through with a takedown into guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Martinez passes into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Martinez stalling. Mooney wants to control but Martinez is keeping busy and won't allow it. Martinez tries to pass to full mount but Mooney defends it. Martinez performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Martinez decides to stand and escape the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Martinez misses with a few strikes there.
Martinez misses with a takedown attempt - Mooney sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Martinez avoids the head kick by Mooney.
Mooney darts in trying to clinch and Martinez counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mooney won't be happy with that. Martinez working the ground and pound from side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here. Martinez lands a decent elbow from side control. Martinez in side control, just content to control the action for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Martinez works to advance to full mount. Mooney defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Martinez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Martinez has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Mooney's face.
Mooney tries to lock up and control but Martinez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Martinez lands a big shot there that rocks Mooney but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Steven Mooney has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Roberto Martinez is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Martinez tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that's the end of the fight! Roberto Martinez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Martinez winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
