The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Patrick Alders and Nard Betker.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ares fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but overeem avoids it really well and circles away.
Ares looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
overeem throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Ares was covering up waiting for the punch and overeem finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Ares manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Ares throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around overeem's waist but overeem gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ares off to one side.
Oooooh!!! overeem has knocked Ares down with a huge combo! overeem steps away and waves a wobbly Ares back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
Ares is rocked!
It looks like Spuke Ares has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
overeem gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Ares counters by clinching up.
overeem has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Ares is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
overeem is working for takedown but Ares is calmly controlling the position for now.
Spuke Ares has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of jelle overeem.
overeem lands with a short shot to the head.

OK we're going to have a standup here. jelle overeem hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
A combination from overeem does no damage.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from overeem, right into the meat.
overeem changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ares tries to avoid it but overeem manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ares to the ground. Ares escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
overeem shoots in for a takedown but Ares shows good takedown defense.
No luck for overeem with that takedown attempt.
overeem shoots for a takedown but Ares saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
overeem shoots in looking for a takedown. Ares tries to sprawl out of it but overeem keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ares manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

overeem shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Ares's guard.
overeem must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Ares looking for a sweep. Not yet Ares, not yet.
Ares has his foot on overeem's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. overeem works his way back into a safe position though.
Ares controls overeem momentarily but overeem frees himself.
Ares looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
overeem gets to his feet - Ares follows without any prompting.

overeem throws a head kick that misses.
Ares gets the takedown into side control.
overeem avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Ares.
overeem managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Ares.
Ares is trying to get an arm triangle but overeem is defending well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
overeem is looking to regain half guard here but Ares keeps moving and retains side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Ares's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

and Ares counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for overeem!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ares tries to control but overeem wriggling away.
overeem tries to hold on but Ares pushes him away.
You get the feeling that overeem really doesn't like being in this position too much.
overeem tries to control Ares's body but Ares pushes him off. overeem squirms to his side and now Ares has his back!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Can overeem hold on?! Ares is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
Ares struggling to keep hold of the position.
Ares will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
overeem is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Ares off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
overeem trying to control the position but Ares manages to sink in the hooks.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Ares patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
overeem tries to roll but Ares sticks to his back.
Ares has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for overeem! Can he survive? No! He's out! Ares gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
