Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jim Smithers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pierre LePew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pierre LePew will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jim Smithers! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pierre LePew! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Steve Smith and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! LePew takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Smithers stuffs the takedown attempt from LePew. LePew gets slowly back to his feet. A combination from LePew does no damage. LePew avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Smithers tries to clinch there but LePew circles away.
Smithers closes the distance and clinches. Smithers stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Smithers breaks the clinch.
LePew looks to land a combination but Smithers avoids it well. Smithers slips a straight right by LePew.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smithers has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
It looks like Jim Smithers has been cut. LePew misses with a straight left. Smithers throws an uppercut from half a mile away. LePew sees it coming and avoids it easily. Pierre LePew seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Smithers misses with a takedown attempt and LePew counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Smithers looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Smithers will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Smithers trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. LePew trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. LePew has gone for a leg lock! Smithers slips out almost immediately though and dives into LePew's guard. LePew is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! LePew looking for a guillotine here but Smithers defends easily.

LePew wants to sweep but no luck. Smithers wants to control from the top but LePew keeps moving. Smithers with a flurry of punches that miss. There's a bit of a scramble here and now LePew is on top in guard.

Smithers has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but LePew can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. LePew wants to pass the guard but Smithers is keeping the position. Smithers escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. LePew gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. LePew trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. LePew sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Smithers's guard. LePew seems to be working for a kimura but Smithers defends the submission attempt. Smithers is trying to control but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Smithers lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for LePew! LePew is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Smithers looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. LePew sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. LePew regains full guard. Nicely done. Smithers wants to get up but he can't break LePew's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. LePew is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. LePew prevents Smithers from improving his position. Smithers wants to control but LePew is keeping busy.

LePew is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Smithers is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. LePew thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Smithers working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. LePew doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. LePew manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Smithers is trying to keep LePew in close.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. LePew pushing down on Smithers's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. LePew looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

LePew wants to finish this one by submission but Smithers is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from LePew. The ref rips LePew off and cradles Smithers's limp body as LePew celebrates with his corner.
