PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between London Oswalt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and William Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Oswalt comes to the cage accompanied by Country Boy can Survive. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as William Stone enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, London Oswalt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, William Stone!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Bruno Lombardi and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stone slaps away a takedown attempt from Oswalt, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Oswalt throws a lazy right hand but Stone sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Oswalt drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Oswalt fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Oswalt gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Stone to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Stone trying to control the position from guard on top but Oswalt is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Stone won't allow Oswalt to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stone slips nicely into half guard.
Stone frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Oswalt really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Stone is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Oswalt can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Oswalt keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Stone looking to control but Oswalt is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Oswalt is bucking up trying to escape but Stone cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Oswalt is in all sorts of trouble here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stone is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Oswalt can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Stone can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Oswalt is looking to escape.

Stone working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Stone moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Oswalt has worked his arm free - good work by Oswalt!
Oswalt is looking for a sweep.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Stone tries for a kimura but Oswalt is defending well.
Oswalt gets back to half guard.
Oswalt wants to get back to full guard.
Oswalt trying to control but Stone postures up.
Stone thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

William Stone dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Some bone on bone action there as Stone checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Oswalt shoots and misses

and Stone counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Oswalt!

Oswalt gets back to half guard.
Stone is keen to just control but Oswalt is a slippery customer.

Stone is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Oswalt has managed to free his arm - good work.
Stone wants to take a breather but Oswalt is having none of it.

Stone seems to be working for a kimura but Oswalt defends the submission attempt.

Stone is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Stone thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Oswalt's head.
Stone wants to control but Oswalt is keeping him busy.
Oswalt slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Oswalt is trying to keep Stone in close.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Stone works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Stone passes to full mount!
Stone tries to control but Oswalt wriggling away.
Stone might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Oswalt kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Oswalt can't escape the position.
Stone raining down shots from the mount!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Stone goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Oswalt is on top in guard.
Oswalt postures up in Stone's guard and throws a big left but Stone blocks it.
Oswalt trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
William Stone has got the better of the ground game so far.

Stone is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Oswalt defends well.
Stone is trying to control the position but Oswalt postures up.
Oswalt loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Stone looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Stone escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Oswalt gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Oswalt trying to control the position from guard on top but Stone is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Oswalt is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Oswalt trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Oswalt trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Stone working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Oswalt doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oswalt manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Oswalt stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stone swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Oswalt postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

William Stone showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Stone dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Oswalt with a hook.
Stone misses with a wild body shot.
Oswalt avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Oswalt tries to score a power double leg takedown but Stone sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Oswalt somewhat.
Stone tries to clinch but Oswalt moves out of range.
Oswalt bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

No joy there for Oswalt, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Stone throws a leg kick but Oswalt moved away.
Stone checks a leg kick.
Stone walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Oswalt checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
A shot to the liver by Stone. Beautiful body shot.

and Stone counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Stone trying to control but Oswalt is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Oswalt tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Stone advances position into side control!
Stone in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Stone is trying to get an arm triangle but Oswalt is defending well.
Oswalt gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stone throwing shots but Oswalt is blocking nicely.
Oswalt trying to control but Stone postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Oswalt is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Stone is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Stone is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Oswalt!
Stone landing strikes from the mount and Oswalt is in trouble!
William Stone is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Stone controlling the position easily from mount.
Stone's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

And that's the end of the fight!
William Stone comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Stone winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
