Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Daiki Nakamura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brad Fickett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Daiki Nakamura has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brad Fickett!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fickett misses with a jab, cross combination.
Fickett misses with a two punch combination.

Fickett feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Nakamura avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Fickett throwing strikes from guard but Nakamura blocks nicely.

Fickett got a little sloppy there for a moment and Nakamura has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Fickett has managed to get both his arms back between Nakamura's legs - danger averted.

Fickett gets to his feet. Nakamura looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Nakamura misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Fickett gets caught flat footed, as Nakamura shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Fickett wants to sweep here but Nakamura controlling him for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Nakamura's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Nakamura gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Fickett throws a body kick that misses.
Fickett throws a lazy right hand but Nakamura sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

and Nakamura counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Fickett's guard now.
Nakamura postures up in Fickett's guard and throws a big left but Fickett blocks it.
Nakamura lands a couple of digs.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Fickett is on top in guard.

Nakamura is trying to control the position but Fickett postures up.

Fickett goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Nakamura rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Fickett's guard! Nice work there by Nakamura!
Fickett wants to sweep here but Nakamura controlling him for the moment.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Fickett trying to keep a closed guard but Nakamura is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nakamura decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Fickett, up you get!

and Nakamura counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Fickett is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Nakamura's half guard.

Nakamura is not content to let Fickett control the position.
Nakamura gets back to full guard.

Nakamura has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fickett can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Fickett drops back, looking for a kneebar! Nakamura looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Nakamura looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Nakamura!

Nakamura tries for a kimura but Fickett is defending well.

Nakamura wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Fickett, who protects the arm well.
Nakamura happy to just control the position for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Fickett manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Fickett lands a leg kick that knocks Nakamura off balance momentarily.

Fickett dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Fickett throws a right and a left that Nakamura avoids nicely.

and Nakamura counters with a series of strikes. Fickett will be more careful next time no doubt.

Fickett shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Nakamura as he avoids it easily.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Fickett has gone for a leg lock! Nakamura slips out almost immediately though and dives into Fickett's guard.

Fickett had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Nakamura defends it easily.
Nakamura pushes down on Fickett's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Nakamura is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Fickett wants to control but Nakamura is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Fickett is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Nakamura scores with a couple of nice shots.

Nakamura wants to take Fickett's back but he can't do it this time.

We're going to have a standup here because Daiki Nakamura wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Nakamura moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Fickett throws a combination that misses
enabling Nakamura to counter with a crisp jab.
Fickett shoots in looking for a takedown. Nakamura tries to sprawl out of it but Fickett keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nakamura manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

and Nakamura counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Nakamura has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Fickett uses from the top position.

Nakamura is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Fickett tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Nakamura has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Fickett bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Fickett gets to his feet. Nakamura looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Fickett goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Fickett slaps away a takedown attempt from Nakamura, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Fickett thumps Nakamura with a low kick.
Fickett misses with a kick to the body
and Nakamura counters with a left to the body.

Fickett is looking to slow Nakamura down with leg kicks.
Good leg kick by Fickett there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Nakamura misses with a few strikes there.
Nakamura misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Nakamura takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Nakamura slips a jab and a cross from Fickett.
Nakamura's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Nakamura duly obliges.
Nakamura tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

and Nakamura counters with a single leg into guard. Fickett didn't expect that.

Brad Fickett has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well Nakamura has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
