Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Paulo Costello (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jordan Sood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sood comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Rap Beat kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paulo Costello!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jordan Sood!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Donatello Bradman and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sood rushes Costello and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Costello is looking to break free of the clinch but Sood has double underhooks.
Costello tries to circle away but Sood has him pinned against the cage.

Sood successfully pulls guard.
Costello sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Sood's guard.
Costello passes to full mount!
Sood gets back to half guard.
Costello sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Sood defending well though.
Sood wants to control but Costello is keeping busy.
Costello tries to pass to full mount but Sood defends it.
Sood is in trouble now - Costello has advanced to mount!
Sood has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.

Sood is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Sood trying to control the action but Costello just sinks the hooks in.

Costello has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Costello controlling well, preventing Sood from escaping the position.

Costello is persistently looking for the submission but Sood is defending it well.
Sood wants to control his opponent's hands but Costello gets his hands free.
Costello wants to control but Sood is keeping busy.
Costello throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.

Costello has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Costello tries to keep control of the position but Sood is staying busy.
Costello doesn't have the hooks in and Sood manages to turn into his guard.
Costello working a defensive guard but Sood manages to pass into side control anyway.

Sood decides to stand up, so the ref orders Costello to his feet.
Costello tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sood sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Costello somewhat.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Costello closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sood circles away.
Costello pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Costello displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.


It looks like Jordan Sood has been cut.
Sood tries to close the distance and clinch up but Costello swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Costello throws a low kick, looking for Sood's leg but Sood calmly moves out of range.

Sood feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Sood tries to close the distance and clinch but Costello swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Sood counters with a shoot takedown. Costello fights it but they end up in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sood wants to control from the top but Costello keeps moving.

Sood is breathing heavily.
Sood loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Sood passes Costello's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Sood stalling away here and it's allowed Costello to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Costello not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Costello keeping moving, preventing Sood from controlling successfully.
Costello is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Costello is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Costello is looking for a kimura but Sood is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Costello to get the leverage.
Costello wants to pass to mount but Sood is defending the position.
Costello thows a huge punch but Sood dodges it nicely.
Costello throws a strike but Sood avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Sood throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Sood scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Sood closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Costello is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.
Costello manages to work his way to half guard, despite Sood's best efforts.
Costello wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Costello manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Costello tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Costello trying to keep a closed guard but Sood is proving a slippery customer.
Costello manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sood manages to get himself to full guard.
Costello trying to control but Sood is working from the bottom.

Costello thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jordan Sood showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Costello gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Sood counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Sood.

Sood must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Sood throws and elbow that misses. Costello uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Sood's guard. Nice move by Costello!

Sood takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Costello drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Costello jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

You can see the frustration on Costello's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Sood goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Costello has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Sood but great work by Costello.

Sood tries to improve position but can't.
Costello throws an elbow but Sood slips to the side and avoids it well.
Costello wants to control but Sood is keeping him busy.
Costello has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Costello trying to control but Sood is having none of it.

Sood defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Costello.

Costello swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Sood is now in Costello's guard. A big mistake from Costello there, giving up the dominant position!

Sood trying to control the position from guard on top but Costello is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jordan Sood comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Sood has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
